Even with an entry level account you can have a total of 8 characters, one per server. I'd advocate trying both out, but I wouldn't let the fact that Balmung appears more populous sway your opinion. You really can't go wrong between the two.
THEN AGAIN I am on Balmung. As if that weren't reason enough, right?
I actually maintain characters on Balmung, Gilgamesh, and Odin and play them all relatively equally.
Oh, are you able to have a character of the same name in two different servers? O_o if so, I might have to do that. Â I figured there was some sort of naming restriction if a name was already being used xD
