I've had younger members in guilds before. Usually, one of their older relatives was already a member, and brought them in to the guild. For the most part, chat was kept pretty clean and profanity was at a minimum. From that perspective, as long as the kid could act mature enough, there was no problem at all.
On the other hand, if a guild/linkshell/company didn't want to have to worry about the content of their conversations I could easily see why they wouldn't want a youngster there.
I've seen mature kids, and grandparents. Overall, I think the individual determines maturity, not how old they are.
Luckily, there is the RPC. There are so many different linkshells out there, everyone who wants should be able to find a place to belong. Even the little brats.
