This is kind of a tricky subject for me... I've never been fond of dealing with players who play characters of a noble background (especially after immediately coming from GW2, which had a ridiculous explosion of them). While this obviously does not apply to everyone, I have RARELY seen the concept being handled well. I've seen people get godmoddy/marysue-ish with it, use it to establish a circlejerking clique, or just use it has an excuse to carry out some grand multi-authored Game of Thrones fanfiction with their own characters pasted in. =_=
SE does not treat "nobility" in this game in a 100% traditional, historical sense. That's fine. However, like SO many other things in FFXIV's lore right now, I feel as though the specifics behind such are not complete? Or at least not entirely clear. Is it just extreme wealth = nobility? Or is there more to it than that? Does it depend on the city-state they're in? Or how much property they own? If they're new money or old money?
What definitely makes a noble a noble in FFXIV's setting? I don't know what the answer to that question is yet.
If I encounter an RPer who claims nobility, I will not outright ignore them... But how I react to it (or one of my characters, rather), is something I'm still debating with myself. It may depend on how it is presented to me.
Edit: I did read through the other 'Nobles?' thread, but I would like better clarity. All I got from that thread was 'extremely rich people are nobles, especially if they're Ul'dahn'. Am I overlooking something?
