Thanks or the excellent responses, folks Most of the MMOs I have played previously have had vast arrays of riding-mount options, and I've always found it interesting to discuss the lore justification surrounding them.
(Also, it's my super-secret hope that I can someday add barding to a coeurl mount. Shh! Super secret!)
"Because it's cool" is certainly a fine justification, as everyone's roleplay is their own, but I've always liked to explore motivations for such things a little deeper on my own characters, and what's been said here is very helpful For coeurl in particular (and any other mount that would be extremely dangerous, untrained), I've assumed that there is either a small faction that captures and trains them, or said mount would have spent most of its life with its rider.
Anyroad, openness in how one can approach such a thing in-game is always welcome.
