Lightning was the first dimension hopper to show up, and her Fates explained it. Show Content XIII and Fate SpoilersShe has the ability to move between the FF worlds due to the patronage of the Gods Etro and Bhunivelze - I'm not clear on which, cus I need to play XIII-2 and Lightning Returns. From what I understand, she could technically go to any of the FF worlds, but it was just easier, more fun, and more profitable to use XIV to show this. There's one other character in the FF universe with this ability that we'll revisit after the next paragraph. The quests tied to her fates imply she was sent here to test out her resolve and to show her what would happen if she didn't pick up the mantle that Bhunivelze was offering, as near as I could tell. Chaos was bleeding into Hydaelyn, and it was stated that this wasn't the only world it was going to happen to - it seemed that it would happen to every other FF world if she didn't find the will to fight again. So there could be even more dimensional cross overs from just that vein alone! The other special case character was recently revealed recently as well. Show Content 2.1 Quest SpoilerPrior to Lightning getting the ability to dimension hop, Gilgamesh was the only character to do it canonically. As Merri mentioned, every Gilgamesh is the same character in every FF, so dimension hopping is NOT new. I'd like more info about the Shantotto F.A.T.E before commenting on it. For a long time, there were people claiming that Hydaelyn was just Vana'diel in the future, even though we know it's not, so I'm leery of the damn thing and the fan bois it might create. XD Basically, as mentioned, if you do it with class and style, without making your character overpowered and super special snowflake/Lightning clone - you're fine! There's lore to back up that dimensional rifts open in Hydaelyn, twisting that to fit with your character is an option, just like any other lore in the world. =D Player Profile The Realm of Role Play
