I'm unsure if you'll make an additional post on the Welcome Board, so please consider this a fill in if you do there as well.
Welcome to Balmung! Mind if I ask what Server you were on before? Gilgamesh has a few RP communities, and you can see in the Linkshell Hall that there are a few groups spread across a few servers, but moving on i've got a few links that will hopefully help you on your way.

This is a Generic welcome post from the RPC to all newcomers, it outlines some of the resources here for you such as the Wiki, the Lantern and the previously mentioned Linkshell hall, also it lists a few people of note in the community at the bottom.

Not sure how much experiance you have in RP... but if you're looking for a comprehensive guide including a few different view points that also addresses some FFXIV specific situations, Evas' handbook is full of great information.
But maybe you're just looking for a community or two in game to poke around in. The Linkshell Hall hosts a great listing, you can click on the icons to read more about them and while they can no doubt do a better job of explaining how and why you should join them I do have two I would like to suggest off the bat.

"Intermission" Is a LFRP/OOC/Chattering mass of people from all different walks of RP life. Who, what, where, when, why all those questions and more can find answers in Intermission. Maybe you jsut want to listen in to get "the pulse" on the population, or maybe you want to see who is at hyrstmill willing to take an extra hand on a baggage train.

"Balmungs finest" on the other hand is an OOC PVE linkshell dedicated to getting you into a group or getting people into yours. Dungeons, Primals, Raids, if its group content and you like many in BF want to check server first before launching into the Duty finder, this is a good linkshell to grab.
