Great to hear you already have some friends you RP with, will they be on Gilgamesh as well?
You'll find plenty of people who have skipped though the games you listed. I went from EQ to WoW to here as my big ones with a smattering of a few small between.

"Coalition" found above is an OOC hub for roleplayers all across Gilgamesh of all different styles and experience level. A great way to get to know the players before the characters!
Also, if you take a look at the event calendar posting for this Saturday you'll find two events being hosted on Gilgamesh!
