The only advice I can give you is an encouragement to try and push beyond your distant/non-social barriers. If it be your character or yourself that has these barriers, both can be a mouthful for any group to take in. It'll also help you greatly if you are able to take contact directly to potential groups, and I promise you none of them is going to bite you.
