Unlike some posters, I actually really love the gameplay of XIV, but I also do a lot of RP. In fact, I've turned down doing game stuff for RP -- that's how good the RP typically is. 
There's certainly nothing wrong with subscribing just for the RP, and with the vibrant RP community, you'll find yourself having a lot of fun.
