Maybe that NPC just likes rounding to fives. Maybe the sixth year hasn't rolled around to the date yet. Wasn't it someone on the lore team who suggested the NPCs ingame are unreliable sources anyway? :p Don't let one NPC ruin your fun! I can almost guarantee no one will try to play lore-hound on you for progressing your RP over time as opposed to RPing as if everything was frozen in time, because.... obviously it's not, right?

That's sorta how I treat age! Every new year is effectively a loop back to the beginning. So while the timeline might be frozen, we are technically advancing. If you wanna celebrate birthdays, do so! (Although Franz will probably never because nobody wants a grumpy old Garlean walking around)

Armi is pretty much forever 23 until the Devs come in and say time has passed. Birthdays are celebrated in a bubble, when time passes those events become canon until then they stay locked in the bubble. I've canonically celebrated one of her birthdays (22-->23) because it would have been within the very short timeline of FFXIVs story bubble. When they tell me how much time has actually passed, all events in her life will be retrofitted into that timeline.

I hate age in MMOs. I always try to keep it vague as hell, but when asked - she's 23.

Here's how I've been treating it. From the beginning of the game to the start of 3.0 is roughly one year. The actual date is dependent on where a character is in the story. In this situation, each character kind of exists in different dates from one another, but I find this to be a fairly easy way of dealing with it.

Oh, wow, really? I am going to check this out. I know NPCs can be unreliable but it is the closest thing we have to an answer at this point.

But we've known it's been 5 years from the Calamity. That was the 1.0 -> 2.0 timeframe. Nothing in the game speaks about 2.0 -> 3.0 at this time.

I've mostly just ignored in-game time because I feel like I have to. Â So much goes on in the MSQ that I simply don't believe that it could be done in a year or two or maybe even three.

I play my characters in real time based on the time the game started or my involvement in it. Â I came to the FFXIV a few months after launch so exactly that much time has passed. Â D'aito is now around level 43, has some experience in fishing, crafting, gladiator style fighting, and a few pugilist lessons (real time helps me justify the gaps when I'm unable to play consistently).

She arrived in Limsa Lominsa around her 20th summer solstice and she is now presumably 22.

Like with most things MMO, I have my game canon, my cooperative RP canon, and my own private canon. Â I'm more strict when it comes to my private canon but if there's group consensus in the FC about how much time has passed, I stick with that.

I haven't found specific anything.

The only things I know. From the Calamity to beginning of 2.0, it was 5 years.

From 2.55 to 3.0, it was just a few days to a couple of weeks.

Uh, I wouldn't say that with such certainty. I'm not sure what you mean by being "accessible even by 2.0 players" making any difference to the time bubble persisting. This event has happened last year for 1.0 and 2.0 players alike. Now, 3.0 players can play.

I think what Sounsyy was trying to imply is that the event may be considered to be a part of the pre-3.0 time bubble, much like the cooking quest with Nanamo or the DRG job quests.
