Sounds like a cool idea, Wizard. It opens both the "Brooding" and "Adventurous" character windows quite easily. Many possibilities... Smile

Seeing as this seems to be the place to talk all things Ishgardian right now, I wonder if I could get some opinions on a character concept I have in mind. This is VERY long for a single reply, so I shall spoiler tag it:

Show Content
Character ConceptHis name is Belmont Corwell and he is a Hyur-Elezen halfblood hailing from Ishgard. His father, Petyr, was a knight of House Haillenarte (Hyur) and his mother, Ceaulie, a noble of the same house. The relationship was kept secret between the two of them as not only was a knight courting his charge, but also that the relationship was between a noble Elezen and a relatively low-ranked (by blood) Hyur would cause uproar among the lords and ladies of House Haillenarte. Should they have been found out, it would bring shame upon House Haillenarte as well as costing both Petyr and Ceaulie their titles, risking exile.

However, it had to come to an end. A matter of months before Petyr was due to depart on one of Haillenarte's zealous campaigns against the dragons, they (accidentally) conceived. In the months that followed, word spread around House Haillenarte of young Ceaulie being impregnated. This, in itself, prompted questions. A noble of Ishgard, pregnant outside of marriage with no wedding arranged? How curious. But still, the nobles entertained the notion. Until the day of the birth. When it was discovered that Ceaulie had given birth to a halfblood (Belmont being more Hyur in appearance than Elezen. He grows rather tall and has slightly pointed ears in adulthood), Ceaulie and her infant child could do nothing but wait on the judgement of the highest lords and ladies of Haillenarte. Though they were not exiled, Ceaulie was stripped of her title as a noble of House Haillenarte and forced to live on the streets of Whitebrim. Though she struggled, and often did not eat herself, she managed to provide enough food and warmth to her child to keep the infant alive.

Petyr Corwell returned to Whitebrim with his company (now a few heads short...) some months later, to report of their "glorious victory" over the dragons. Though, he was not met in the way which he had expected. Having forced the name of the child's sire from Ceaulie with false promises she would remain a noble during her time of judgement, the lords of Haillenarte had learnt that he was the father. Stripped of his rank and title, Petyr was ordered for execution under the charge of "seduction and desacralisation of a noble lady", until an unknown reason caused the lords to over-turn this charge, instead condemning him to the same fate as Ceaulie. Living together on the streets, Petyr would attempt to find work whilst Ceaulie would care for young Belmont. Two highly respected individuals, brought down to become beggars living on the cold streets of Whitebrim, and for what? Love?

Years passed, Belmont growing up the son of beggars, a street urchin. During the winter of his fifth year his mother, Ceaulie, succumbed to the frost and died of pneumonia. There was no funeral, only a crudely carved plaque in the corner of the fort's graveyard. From this moment onwards, Belmont knew he wanted to make a better life for him and his father. As a knight, nonetheless. And so, Petyr taught his son all he knew of the sword, the lance, the bow. Belmont seemed to take best to the lance, however. On his fifteenth year, Belmont sent away a sealed letter, written in his best handwriting, to the Knights of House Haillenarte. Petyr did not expect a reply, though he would continue to encourage Belmont and tell him they might.

Petyr was taken in shock when Belmont actually got a reply, it was no surprise. Invitation to an assessment of his capability, they wrote back. Overcome with excitement, Belmont showed the letter to all that could see in Whitebrim, though who would listen to a street urchin? For all the aristocracy and commonfolk alike knew, he had simply picked the hefty purse of a pimpled baroness, out gawking over the disgustingly fragrant perfumes on sale she so fondly wore. His pleasure was rather short-lived though, when his father told him how he came to be in this world and that he would have to lie about his heritage when asked by the knight captain. Why, to be under the name "Corwell" was to be instantly denied. And so, Belmont lied. He told them his father was "Abel Southway", a leatherworker from the outskirts of Haillenarte territory. After seeing the boy's skill with the lance, however, the captains and lieutenants hardly cared for whom his father was! As it was, Belmont was accepted in the the Knighthood of House Haillenarte under the rank of messenger boy.

As three years passed, Belmont had become an infantry private in the 207th Division of the Knighthood. His skills ever impressing, he grew close to his commanding officer, Vairemont Ganathaine. Until the day on which he told his commanding officer of his true heritage. Son of Knight-Lieutenant Petyr Corwell, courter of the "Harlot Ceaulie" as she had become known in the years since her death. It goes without saying, his trust was double-crossed and, like his father, Belmont was expelled from the Knighthood.

His father still residing in Whitebrim, Belmont now travels Eorzea, seeking a new purpose. For every gil he earns, he sends them back to Whitebrim, to his father, in the hope that Petyr might make enough gil to own more than a wooden shack outside Whitebrims walls.

So yeah. What d'yah think? I will likely only play him if Asgarn meets an unfortunate end or I put him on a break for a while, but still.

My now deceased character's mother ran away from Ishgard in the dead of night. She was a minor member of the House of Fortemps. Her father was the youngest son of whoever the head of the house was(an elezen), and a maid (a midlander). I ran her as a hated girl in a fanatical world.

I really like that idea Asgarn, Byron could relate to some of his woes.

I'm basically going to model Byron after the literary trope of the Byronic Hero.

I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

I think everyone else's advice is good, use what is in lore (or what little there is) and forge something out of it that you feel is what you want to play.

Maybe my character will recognize yours though, if he was a prominent member of the Ishgard society.

Heh oddly enough my character Artorias is the opposite of yours in some ways.  He was a Garlean soldier, but after witnessing the Calamity he lost faith in the Empire because instead of destroying the primals and saving the world(which he truly believed the Empire was doing) they did the opposite.  He deserted and took it upon himself to find and destroy Bahamut, even if it costs him his own life.  It is his twisted way of atoning for the atrocities he committed when he was with the Legions.

His decision to become a Dragoon came from hearing stories that these knights specialized in fighting and destroying dragons so the believes those skills will aid him greatly in his quest.  As for becoming a dragoon he ended up being trained by an old Hyur who was the last remaining member of House Rivendare(a minor house of Ishgard, or if there are no minor houses they'd be a vassal house of one of the four major ones.)  The old man taught him everything he could about being a dragoon before passing away form a wasting disease caused by his dragon soul.  He was also made Lord of the said house with the promise to keep the Rivendare legacy alive as his mentor had no children left alive who shared his bloodline.

The thing is Artorias has no real interest in being an Ishgardian, to him gaining the power of a dragoon and title of Lord of House Rivendare is a means to an end, which is to find and destroy Bahamut.  If anything he uses his Ishgardian title to hide his Garlean origins.

Ha!  Polar opposite!  Nice.  Oddly enough, his story is more similiar with Roen's. (What, I have two Garleans who are not really Garleans)

Belmont is made. ^.^ All in all, I am very happy with his appearance and can't wait to play him! It is important to note I shall only be roleplaying him when (and IF) I put Asgarn in to discontinuation. Here are some screenshots I took during the Gridania opening sequence to try and give you a good look at him:

(The Spoiler tag system seems to hate me. Every screenshot after "Basic Shot" is a screenshot within a screenshot. They're there still, so feel free to look! Tongue)

I should probably mention that I've also created an Ishgardian named Cedric Riordan. The name links to his RPC Wiki.

Any Ishgardians who'd like to recognize him, please let me know beforehand. Also if you happen to read the wiki, let me know if there are any inconsistencies with the lore.

To summarize: Cedric was once a dragoon knight (In which, if they had ranks, he'd likely be the lowest ranking knight. Squire?) but did not like his confined life within the Holy See so he... kinda just left. During The Calamity, might I add. So for all intents and purposes, he has likely been branded a heretic.

Anyhoo, I'm glad I ran into this thread, for I didn't know many people who RP'd Ishgardians and there is not much lore we know about them. Again, if you have a character who would like to recognize him, let me know.

Yup that's no problem, I actually made a bit of lore about them as I made them a Crusader House with a small history of their own.  Just let me know and I'll send it to you. Smile
