You can beat the whole game with just about any decent team, you don't really need good stats, I just go down the list of pokemon that I can get, that I really like and make a team that way. Â Most of the time though...I am stuck worrying I will get overly attached to a pokemon I caught early on, and be stuck with it no matter how mush I do or do not like that particular pokemon.
I am also sexist (on the subject of pokemon), so I only catch male pokemon if I can, unless there is no other choice. (Never gonna give up on you Chansey!)
I also catch one of every pokemon available in the game (I don't trade around unless I -must- have something in particular), which means one of each form too, so not only evolved forms.
When I get particularly bored...I choose a job or theme for my trainer, and make a team of pokemon around what fits with that theme, say...ice cream shoppe worker, or...aquarium specialist...herder...that sort of thing then pick lots of pokemon to go with that theme. Â Gets me through, since I buy every version available of the game and play them all.
Still waiting on that Crystal remake though...>.>;;;
