Please try to stay on-topic everyone.

This thread is not about the character creator options. It's about why you picked the race you RP with.

[[steps out]]

But the reason I picked the race I RP with is because of character creator options! D:

Miqo'te, btw. I didn't want a hyur (the lore wasn't appealing), I couldn't make a convincing older elezen, and roeagdyns were too bulky for the character concept. Miqo'te was the one race who had at least a somewhat mature-looking face/eye option and a hairstyle I thought suited the character concept well. It wasn't until after I made her that I came up with her full story. XD

To be fair, you can't make a convincing older looking female Miqo'te either, at best they look adult, and far from a middle aged one. They just look like a young person that went gray way early.

I did the best I could. ._. Sorry.

I really don't know how to feel about Lalafell being least popular.  On the one hand it's nice to be different, I guess.  On the other hand I have more fingers.

Nothing too surprising here. Aesthetically, fem Miqo and female Au ra seem to have the most diverse options. You can create great looking cutesy characters, and great looking fierce characters. Plus they have amazing emotes.

I am sorry to say, and I know this makes me a terrible person: I view all Lalafell as adorable. I even have a character concept for one, and he's a serious character, but I just can't help myself. It doesn't help that their naming conventions are cutesy too.

Roe's are the exact opposite. It's hard to make one that's cutesy, they all just have this.. . presence no matter how friendly or not friendly they are. I absolutely love rping with them, but could never play one.

I REALLY wanted to love elezen. Really really bad. I love elves. My first character was a wildwood. I live elezen lore.  I loved my character...

...but I hate their emotes. And their animations. And the proportions. I would love to love elezen but I just don't Sad my current Raen kind've strikes me as the elezen I always imagined and wanted to be.

So yea, from an aesthetic diversity standpoint, Hyur Miqo and Au Ra makes perfect sense to me.

It's true some elements of the race emphasize a certain kind of character, but that's why I wanted to go against it. The starting female gear had a pocket full of flowers, kinda too girly for Vira so I immediately bought a frumpy glacial coat. The emotes usually feature very bold expressions, so I made macros that forced /straight during the animation so Virara could do those gestures without smiling. In the end, you can't remove the cute from Lalas, but you can do your own take on it.

I forgot for a minute that Highlanders and Midlanders are the same race. They're so different in form whereas most clans differentiate in small features (plainsfolk have pupils, dunesfolk do not, etc.) and color palette.

I actually looked for the Highlander option for a good five seconds before saying "Oh, right. I'm dumb."

I picked Hyur purely for aethestic reasons and nothing more. While 9 times out of 10 I will always pick an elvish race (especially a 'dark' elvish race), Elezens just look too weird to me, and none of the other races appealed to me no matter how many hours I spent in character creation.

So I went with a boring Hyur.

That's great.  I also did something similar with adding /smile to the /upset emote for a dreamy sigh, and a /smile to the /sulk emote for a bashful eye aversion.  I love how you can use expressions to change emotes like that.

Anyways, I've also thought that lalafells are cuter when they act more serious.  That's part of the fun of it.  Virara has a real presence based on what little I've seen of her though, one of the few Lalafells who cranked up the height slider.  Smile

I'm the same, and that was my exact issue with Elezen.  Something about the proportions is just off to me on the females, and even tho I think their faces are really pretty, I just couldn't bring myself to play one.

I needed to do that because /yes is by far my most used emote, and the Lalafell smiles slightly while doing it, which I felt was out of character.

Anyway, I appreciate it. Virara is even taller by a bit ICly. I think you can only go about 3'3" ingame, and Virara is 3'5" and growing. She is probably the tallest Lalafell anyone has seen. and were she to keep growing upward, at some point she might be considered to be actually "giant" for their race. If she were to go into a Plainsfolk burrow-village, she'd be hitting her head constantly.

... >_> This may be a plot point later on. But mainly, since she is a fistfighter, she needed the slight increase in height to be able to trade blows in a way that is only slightly awkward with a typical Hyur of middling height, at least without jumping a lot, which she does anyway. It's another case of aesthetics writing the character for me, in which I visualized what I wanted to do in rp and tried to make a character that served that purpose.

I've never been one for the "characters as people" thing, and I assembled traits that made sense and could be strung into a cohesive background as I went. If it vaguely resembles a plausible individual, I'm satisfied, but I want them to serve my purposes more than anything. I imagine that for a lot of players, the same is true of why they chose the race they did. For me, I wanted to fuse "cute" and "tough," "dark" and "hopeful," and so did I reuse an old character idea and make it into Virara. I've never been above rehashing myself if nobody around has seen the original... :v Well, I did give it a new spin at least... Anyway, if the race serves your storytelling purpose, there's no worry of whether it's popular or unpopular, but I do like the fact that Lalas aren't overly common, as they are amongst non-rp players. It gives my character that much more distinctiveness to not be amongst lots of violent, sullen lalas with dependency issues.

We probably should rp more. Actually, Virara needs to sharpen her reading comprehension in Eorzean, lol.

I rolled a midland Hyur as my first character because it was the most Nilla Wafer option. I regret not having gone Elezen or Highlander for Marten. Either of those would have been more aesthetically what I want.

Lalafell would have been a solid choice too, considering his background, and seeing it as the least popular option makes me kind of want to roll one.

Each man longs to pursue his dream. Each man is tortured by this dream, but the dream gives meaning to his life. Even if the dream ruins his life, man cannot allow himself to leave it behind. In this world, is man ever able to possess anything more solid, than a dream?

I have one of everything, so uhh. I don't know how I fit on here..

I do however roleplay my Hyur more, but I just feel more comfortable being a majority lore-wise race of the game.

If I were to really just label my main, it'd be midlander. If only because Kathe(Formerly Kurt) is probably the only I have who can rp at the moment and the closest to 60.

Also because hyur's where it's at >>gets shot<< anyway I guess i just like what I can do with em. Though I voted hyur miq and au ra.

Especially the keepers. There's just something charming about /taunt and showing the world that you DO have fangs.
