Dark Knight seems more magical from the few attacks we've seen, whereas Warrior is purely martial and potentially closer to what some folk want.

I had a Reaver-Tank in Rift and a Dark Templar in Age of Conan. DRK is basically them.

Don't neglect the wandering Samurai or Ronin archetype for the class. I don't know about Guts, if it is the same. This is not a class for my main, but I have an alt or two that will make fine sword wielders.

One of them is up to Castrum, so it may not be all that bad.

Is that true, though, that we can't even add new classes without fighting through the ENTIRETY of msq up through the 2.55 debacles?

I'm not going to say any of my characters will be any of the new classes, because essentially, there's zero lore about them, and as Heavensward will revolve around Ishgard and co., the classes will probably be somehow tied to that as well. I personally would rather not be a special snowflake.

Just keep the following in mind regarding how people think when it comes to this stuff.

Their own justifications for RPing a Job: Well thought out, rational, not lore breaking, good RP, doing it for the right reasons.

Everyone else's justifcations for RPing a Job: Poorly thought out, irrational, lore breaking, bad RP, doing it for the wrong reasons.

While I'm not interested in Dark Knight my AuRa is going to be all over Astrologian, and I'll be a gods damned special snowflake to do it if necessary.

People understand you can just RP as a swordsman, right? Like... you could just be a Knight, and not a... Dark... Knight?

I mean, you think I'm being silly, but I'm sitting here watching LS chat every day where folks are like "I want to RP a dark knight, but I don't want to be Evil McBadguy, how do?" and I'm just like

I think part of it is that we won't be getting a great sword class the same way we have Gladiator for Sword and Shield, or Marauder for Axe.Â
It's pretty much Dark Knight or no great sword in game.

I do agree it's a little much that some people are already RPing Dark Knights, but it's not like I RP with them so... it's whatever.

I'll level DRK to have a greatsword, but no forced edgelord shite for me. A character's anguish should come from their personal experiences and background, not a contrived profession which validates said anguish (not saying DRK will be like that in FFXIV, but I think a lot of people see DRK that waY).

I don't know if it'll fit my own headcanon for actual combat in doing a dungeon IC, though. A lot of the actions seem less 'dude swings big sword', but a plethora of magical attacks with it as well. Compare that to GLD which is mostly various flourishes and sword spins.

Donâ€™t wax poetic about all your DARK and MUDEROUS rage publicly and you should do fine. Iâ€™m also going to take a shot in the dark here and say Dark Knights arenâ€™t horribly known to common folk. Itâ€™s probably not the sort of thing you talk about when you first meet someone unless they happen upon your character throwing FRIGGINâ€™S SICK magical fast balls.

While I wonâ€™t be playing DRK (ASTROLOGIAN AND MACHINIST,HOLLA) Iâ€™m pretty much down to play with people who are so long as they arenâ€™t using it as the one defining thing about their character. If someone has an interesting character and good roleplay and fun plots like. . . What does it matter? What the hell does it matter? Dark Knight sounds potentially cool as hell.Â

I don't know anything about the lore but I highly, highly doubt I will be one - just a greatsword wielder. My idea for my Au Ra was developed before I even thought about what class he'd be, but a greatsword definitely fits that bill in the end.

Having said that, under certain circumstances he could certainly turn into an uncontrollable machine(i.e if his master is in serious danger), but other than that he will usually be very stoic and level-headed about everything, even in battle.

Ah, yeah... magic.

Have never been a fan of non-mages doing that but I guess I might consider having a character use it for once. We'll see.
