Except for the important generals, the imperials we find in castrums all belong to the countries the Empire seized and conquered.

And yes, I do know of how limited Padjali would be in terms of where they can go and what they can do. I Roleplayed an Immortal on FFXI (they were the profession behind Blue Mage job, the elite of the Empire in charge of protecting the Empress. In short, much like Sultansworn), and as that character I could not leave the imperial city. However, you also brought up an interesting point that I did not think about. This could be an easy route to RP a full-fledged White Mage and suffer no community scorn for doing so, since Padjali can use Succor.

All in all, I am seeing even pro's and con's in this. I suppose it will ultimately fall on the roleplayer to decide which route is best. Thanks for sharing!

Actually...the amount of social power you would have as a Padjal would make the entire idea extremely...problematic.  They have a huge amount of sway over the Shroud and the citizens of Gridania, and are both their political, social and religious leadership.

I would personally shy away from interacting with someone claiming to be in such a role.

Until I die I'll sing these songs
On the shores of Babylon
Still looking for a home
In a world where I belong

Where the weak are finally strong
Where the righteous right the wrongs
Still looking for a home
In a world where I belong

I'm pretty lenient when it comes to plausibility within RP/Lore, etc. Usually if it is something you can explain well, in a thought out manner I'm good with it. However. I think in this case, Padjali are a race that should be left as NPCs.

I don't have a problem with them being used as a plot point, or something of a story device. But as a full time PC-character I would have to disagree with. Even if the au ra model was used. Could it be used? Sure, probably. But would I? No.

Like many others have said there's a lot of political sway with these characters. It would be sort of like playing a member of the Jedi Council I think. And while using the Council as an NPC plot device is alright, I would never play a council member personally. And I think that in this case it would be very similar-model or not.

And if it were an NPC? I personally wouldn't change my character for it. Fantasias aren't something I like to spend money on.

I've always felt as though one of the most selfish things any role-player can do is to deliberately place their character in a situation where they're realistically going to be very far above everybody else in terms of power, influence and/or connections.

Playing a hyur as a padjal is better than playing an au'ra as one.

You know what's better than both? Not playing a padjal.

Padjal horns start from the back of the head rather than the sides, and have more of a woodland creature texture than anything - they aren't asymmetrical. If so that's a bug I think.

The actual gray-white leaf thing isn't a horn, but a weird Gridanian ornament that Seedseers seem to wear. Which isn't accessible in-game (obviously, but ya know).

So with that in mind - I'd advise against trying to pass off an Au Ra as a Padjali. At best you're trying to recreate the ornament with their horns which is kind of... not that? Best bet is still midlander Hyur with child-like features, and big poofy hair if we can find a proper haircut (if you have O-App-Pesi or E-Sumi-Yan's horn patterns a large amount of hair would hide those well).

Granted that would likely go against what they want to do, but yeah.
