I get that things like "human", "elf", "bear" are lowercase, but the terms Hyur, Elezen, and Roegadyn are proper nouns to me and thus deserve the respect of a proper noun. Same goes for terms of office, like "sultanate", but when used in RP of the context of FFXIV, I prefer to capitalize it as "Sultanate" because it specifically refers to the Ul'dahn Sultanate. The Admiralty of Limsa Lominsa, etc.
This is something I've flipped back and forth on for a while as well. I've ultimately elected to approach the matter in the same way Tolkien did: when referring to the races as a whole I capitalize ("The origins of the Miqo'te can be traced to the continent of Meracydia"), but when referring to the race as a descriptor I use undercase ("The five miqo'te children played with their ball of yarn").

One thing that happened to me recently was promptly put on my pet peeve list.
Someone, on a different character, starts talking to me like we knew each other.
Not knowing whom it was, I asked who they were.
They eventually got around to the character name that they rped with me on.
The name didn't ring any bells at first, because I had only met them once before.
So, I ask if they were the character that was in ___ FC.
And they overreacted, something on the lines of "if that's how you rremember me, I'm doomed!" I guess that fc wasn't a very good one.

I don't know how I or anyone can be expected to remember everyone and every detail of every rp encounter.

I'm not sure if this is really a pet peeve since it's a pretty legit insane thing to do? But it's happened often enough that I'm going to include it. People have already mentioned being irked by people with a blind focus on romance or who try to force relationships to happen, but what's worse is people who take it a step further and use OOC manipulation to try to make it happen, especially after you've already expressed your disinterest IC and OOC both.

I've had people try to force the RP in directions that would put our characters in romantic/sexual/intimate situations. I've had someone make two separate characters, pretend to be two different people OOC, and use one character to try to seduce my character and use the other to try to seduce my character's love interest (still not really sure which of us he was actually after???). One girl randomly sent my RP partner nude photos of herself IRL because she wanted their characters to hook up and have an affair. Another girl kept harassing him for a while about how he was "breaking lore" by having his Miqo'te in a relationship with my Hyur, basically insisting he was a bad RPer for it and offering that he could role-play with her Miqo'te character instead (I've had similar instances of this tactic, as well: "Why is Faye with a brute Miqo'te? She must be unhappy. That doesn't make sense. RP with me instead."). In another MMO, I knew a guy who would try to romance almost every female character he met, and OOCly portrayed his character as single and a virgin because he would hide the fact his character had other lovers and try retcon all their sex scenes to try to deceive every woman he met into thinking his character was fully available and pure and chaste and not a playboy, etc. (basically wanted to sleep around with every girl but have no IC repercussions from it and keep it a secret OOC).

The level of creepiness is astronomical. Stop. Just stop.

One of my peeves which makes me ignore Ul'dah like the plague it can be is when people who roleplay outsiders to Eorzea - mainly Au ra recently and at times other human continent people and act as if they own the city and/or can ignore the city states laws.

it is to my understanding that refugees are not allowed in the city sate and are held out the gates. So, why are so many people within the city when they clearly aren't citizens.
When my character is in the city it is to hand in a leve quest in the city and then quickly GTFO before the brass blade throw her out.

I know, I know - it is the hangout spot, everyone loves a bar. But we aren't the hero of light, most of us aren't actual adventurers and -many- people fail to remember in (was it 2.2 or 2.3) that Domans were thrown out of the city and were only given a home in Mor Dhona.

To ad to this - it would be really nice for people to.. perhaps play along to those who are Ul'dahn. When an Ul'dahn asks how you got into the city or asks if you're a adventurer and you say no - with no legitimate reason for being in the city, don't blow up at them for wanting to enforce their own city-states laws.

Laws are important.

Not only that, but so long as both sides are amicable about the whole matter it can provide an interesting diversion or a later storyline hook to actually follow through with the question. Why IS your character there? Do they have their visas and a work permit, or the rough equivalent? What are they doing in the fancier quarters of the city? Etc, etc, etc. It's all fun little things to think about really and who knows! You might find a very good reason for them to be there.

I mean it's one thing to have someone outright attack you over these issues, but if it comes up in regular RP is there really any harm in following through with it? Unless of course it's not to your taste, then a simply talk over PM explaining your stance will go a much longer way than blowing up at the other person.

Mm, I've done so on many occasions and when no evidence has come to show they have no right being in X location - My character calls the guards, and because there is no IC representation of the guards they proceed to attack a Ul'dahn citizen in the middle of a tavern and everyone cheers them on because 'how dare she enforce the law'.

Bleh. See that's something I'd have like to have happened to Enla when she was still in Ul'dah. She had her permits but the place she worked was literally one flicker away from being closed down by the proper authorities if they didn't constantly toe the line between offering medical service to those who needed it, but also cooperating with the authorities given the fact that a near free clinic attracts all sort of unwanted characters. Add onto that that she was still very clearly blind at the time and a Keeper at that, and it would have been so interesting to see how she managed to convince the appropriate people that, no, she was not a beggar and was there legitimately... Heck, I want it to happen now that she's up in Ishgard as the only reason she even breached the city gates was due to her needing urgent care.

I'm really sorry people have lashed out at your character doing something that is logically within their frame work. People don't like having their character's toes stepped on even when simply communication can solve everything.

Completely ignoring all lore; bending lore is one thing, but completely ignoring it all together is a totally different ordeal.

Trying to force romance on others; as have been said by others, that is creepy and a no go.

While I have a neutral stance on erotic role-play, the facet of trying to force it on others is quite disgusting.

Characters without flaws and characters mainly all flaws. Either you're perfect or so broken even the gods turn their backs on you; both are boring to role-play with.
Being RP'd into stasis and then leave for the week; mainly that as others said, putting you in a situation that takes you out of RP and then never RPing it out. It ruins your potential to roleplay more.

People automatically winning; losing, unless agreed by the two people beforehand, automatically 'I win' or 'I lose', is quite boring and not compelling, as well it takes out the random chance in roleplay.

Including thought in /emotes.  That command is there for you to portray your actions and FFXIV is not a forum-based roleplaying platform. If other people can't see/hear/feel your actions,  you might aswell put it in the trashcan,  or take it to /party.  I'm not totally against it,  but it just makes me mad when I'm roleplaying in a public roleplay hub. It ends up leading to metagaming.  And the sad thing is,  some people do this just to make their /emotes look long.

As said, it can lend context, imply what a facial expression would be like etc.

Adding depth to actions isn't a problem, I just get mad when people flood their /emotes with thoughts.

I don't tell people they can't do thought emotes, but I do tell them not to get mad because I don't RP my character as privy to them.
