My name is Bobobara and I'm completely new to RPing. I've recently been playing the main game on it's own and I've recently gotten to the point that I wanted to try something new, so here I am!

I've already taken time to develop a character name, Bobobara Lolobara from the Dunesfolk clan whom I already have a max level with Black Mage in, so I'm trying to figure out a good way to incorporate a good RP character with my main. I think my biggest challenge is trying to figure out an occupation and personality for him!

With that being said, it's nice to meet you all and hope we can all RP together sometime!

I find it helpful to start very slowly, building little by little. I tend to pick out a few basic details, and then develop the rest through roleplay. Personally, I'm a bit impulsive in my roleplay and character development, since I tend to overthink if I try to organize it all up front. I think it's also okay to retcon minor things as you go along, and reveal information about yourself slowly to other characters until you finalize what you really want.

It may also help you to begin creating a wiki page where you can start laying out some information about your character.

That being said, my dood, Alderique, currently lives in Ul'dah and mostly does odd jobs for merchantsâ€”mercenary work, deliveries, escortsâ€”whatever's profitable. If you'd like to RP some time, feel free to look for me in game and we can work something out.

Keep an eye out for some of the RP hubs, like the Quicksand inn in Ul'dah. It can be a little overwhelming, but you can examine characters and see what information they have in their player search profiles. I tend to browse through them and initiate RP/tell those who are open to it! It's a little intimidating at first, but it can be quite rewarding.

Thanks! I already have a notepad with some details on the character I want to RP as, so adding it to the Wiki page is definitely a great start! More than likely, I'm overthinking it quite a bit and just need to simplify it just a tad.

Hello there, welcome, it's good to meet you! I think the best way to figure out the details of your character is to pick out a few traits/ideas you know you want to play on that character, and fill in the blanks from there. (I.E. if I want to play a merchant from Ul'dah, I need to figure out what kind of personality might fit a merchant, or what events in the past might have led him to become a merchant, what kind of outlooks and experiences someone from Ul'dah might have, etc.)

Thanks Faye! Those are some interesting points. I feel as I got a base down to the point that I'm ready to go, I just need to figure out a few small details. I.E., should I consider going for different gear besides the highest level gear? Starting to think I should go more for appearance rather than level skill.

You're very welcome! Keep your gear with good stats for PvE, but in RP, don't worry about stats and just go with whatever looks good and/or fits your character's fashion sense! Smile
