I don't see what the abuse is (other than being a disruption at an event but that is a completely different matter than "your character looks this way and is dressed this way why don't you treat my character with authority or the force to put you down" so I will not touch on event disruption.)

If someone plays an uppity arrogant character, what if that's it?

I didn't see any indication where it started to go to rolls or some such. It looks more like a character called another character on an intimidation bluff. In all this time this thread has been around, I have only seen that one character got uppity and the character in a guard capacity wanted to speak and show their authority.

Where did it get physical?

Why should someone cower just because of size and armor? Did that actually get used?

Or was it, "Oh hey I'm this guard here and I expect you to respect my authority... I'm the bouncer at this event and you're being rowdy..... why aren't you stopping?"

Edit: The point is, it's not about people recognizing size and strength. The point is that people are asses and like to either a) use events to publicly show their RP plots or b) want to be disruptive. It's just the value of the player being an ass when someone OOC tells them ((Look, this isn't the event for it. If you continue I'm about to put a sword through your character and consider your character dead if I ever see you again. Knock it off.))

The trouble with arrogance and taking things to rolls: My plithey snooty elf is equally capable of beating the shit out of Berrod as he is to me. If my elf gets manhandled, it's no real detriment to my character. If someone playing a confident role gets smashed by my doucher, it does nothing but derail their characterization.

It's a prominent thing at the GS, actually. Mostly everyone knows that we try to keep the upraised rock as the sort of place for the organizers and folks using it as a vantage point. That has never stopped someone from deciding they're going to come stand on it, and in some cases, they get huffy and defensive about being asked to move. It's all "in character" but it's still a shitty thing to do at a public event, especially because security or bouncer rolls are usually doubling as support staff and an extra pair of eyes. The more time I have to spend arguing with someone about getting down is less time I have to be reading the log for the stuff I'm SUPPOSED to be looking at.

At the same time, we both know Berrod would laugh and absolutely love the opportunity to weave a tale making this plausible.

...It's true lol. In my case, it won't so much derail their characterization so much as provide me with an opportunity to write something interesting about how my character deals with unexpected defeat. The fun for me is in making it work!
