So since there's a thread up for Blade and Soul, I thought I'd see if anyone was playing the vastly superiorÂ other Korean MMO that's coming out, Black Desert. The first Beta just ended, and I think there's supposed to be one more. Personally I thought it was quite fun.

There's an RP community up for it if anyone's interested in that as well, though it seems to be rather small at the moment.

I have this marked down on my must try list, I was only recently introduced to it so I know very little but everything looks great. I like the sound of the story and the classes are definitely intriguing!

After playing CBT1 to a very casual and quiet degree (only getting to about levels 10-13 with three characters), I have to say that I find myself really, really, really wanting to RP in the world that they've made. Smile

For some reason I'm extremely pumped for more of this game's music, I have no idea why. A lot of it is really amazing (even if I spent most of my time running around to Sounds of the Shire in the beta). The minstrel music really grabbed me somehow though, and now I'm obsessed with it.

It's actually entirely possible that you won't have to, I would suggest trying to run it first. It's extremelyÂ well optimized, much to my surprise. If you can run XIV, I guarantee you that you can run Black Desert on at least one setting above whatever you currently have XIV on.

I have no idea how they got it to run that smooth, but it does. Somehow.

Yeah, I game on a laptop so I was crazy concerned that I would need some sort of upgrade, but you'll be absolutely fine. It's also worth noting that even on medium settings the game still manages to look fantastic (to be honest, "medium" settings in this game is another MMO's "high" anyway).

Only real graphical problem that I encountered in the Beta (and that a lot of people did) is that there seems to be a high degree of pop-in, but apparently that's being looked into. The playerbase seems divided on whether or not that's due to graphical capability or latency, though.

It looks beautiful, but the gameplay looks utterly boring! Even when MrHappy streamed doing the beta, he said he was so bored playing the game. So much that he decided to go play FFXIV instead, even though he had planned to dedicate the stream to just playing Black Desert.

So yeah, I'm very skeptical. Like I said, it is really beautiful, but I don't play a game for graphics alone.

I actually found the gameplay to be crazy fun, since it's the same sort of action-based things that are cropping up in other games like Blade and Soul, with dodging and combo-based inputs and button combinations and all that.

Though I do find some classes to be more fun / play differently / attack faster than others, so depending on what he was playing I might have another opinion. So far, Sorceress has been my favorite to play because of the speed, but I'm also looking forward to Blader as well.

I'll probably end up giving the game a go just for the graphics, to be honest.

That character creator in the betas looked AMAZING. ...and if it's really that free form and optimized, I'll probably try using it just for 3D posing and expressions. The perfect tool for artists!

I've been following Black Desert for some time now (not closely, but I'll go back every now and then to see what's happening) and all I can say is i'm pumpedÂ for it. It looks glorious and I can't wait to get into it when it finally fully comes out.

Side note, there isn't much RP mechanics in place yet, apparently, so that is still sort of a problem. Hopefully, and maybe with some pushing from its community, they'll add stuff like emotes.

*Unpopular opinion incoming* It looks a lot better than anything FFXIV is to me. The combat looks amazing (which I've never really found FFXIV to have), there's actually a substantial character creation (unlike FFXIV, even runescape has a better character creation system) and... I dunno, lol. It just feels better.
