So back when I played WoW I had a kind of lorebend-ish idea for an undead character. I never really got to rp her and gave up on her all together, but I'm curious to see if anyone can figure out a way I could implement her into FFXIV or if it's just something I couldn't even try to rp here.Â
The central idea was that she was a seer, so she was able to predict things with somewhat accuracy. My idea for how to implement it then was that a necromancer pulled her from death and that is what caused her powers. He then erased her memory once she wasn't useful anymore.Â

However, there aren't exactly any undead characters in FFXIV, so that part is out the window XD But would there be some way to implement the power though the explanation of Aether? I'm quite new to FFXIV so I'm not extremely familiar with the lore. Do any of you think that could or/could help me build on how that would work?Â

There's an ability that the many people in Eorzea and beyond have called the Echo. It manifests differently for everyone.Â

Some might be able to see the memories of others, some could see brief glimpses of the future, another might be able to understand every language spoken. So on and so fourth.

Normal people can have the echo just as much as the overpowered Main Story Character so I don't see why your character couldn't be able to see the future in some capacity. I know I used that ability for one of my character's mom. But her visions were always random and set in a random time in the future and she couldn't ever change the outlook of them.

I had thought about that, but I was worried it'd be a little god mod-y since the main characters use it. Do alot of people really use it in rp? Like I said I'm pretty new to the ffxiv scene and I came from wow, where even bending lore a little bit or playing a non ingame race will get you blacklisted. XD So you think people wouldnt do that here if I explained it that way?

I haven't seen it often but I have seen it. I think that a lot of people do shy away from it because of the main story characters having it but it's been said in multiple places that normal run of the mill adventurer/people can be Touched By the Echo. There's several other people in the MSQ (Main Story Quests) that have the Echo as well, not just the Warrior of Light.

I think that if you spun it the right way or your character didn't have omniscience because of her ability it wouldn't be too terribly received. You might have to make it so she just had vague feelings instead of full out visions, but she could sense danger coming to her party, or whether a person would have good luck in fishing today or if they should wait to tomorrow or have their fortunes read etc.

I think maybe full on visions would probably be too godmody, but a very intense gut feeling type of thing wouldn't for rp Smile

I know some people RP with the Echo, some don't. There was a census that I came across that says most don't, but it appears to be an option! (Most, of course, don't RP as being the Warrior of Light who's the main character of the story.) The Echo is possessed by a few NPCs in the Waking Sands, for instance, besides Minfilia.

There is a way simpler solution than the echo though: astrologian. They study the stars and constellations to make future predictions and overall are time mages (focused on healing on the ingame class, but that's just a tiny bit of their abilities, cf Ishgardian astrologians and Sharlayan astrologians). For example some of their healing abilities actually stem from time reversal/manipulation.

It is a seen a lot of quests in Coerthas and the most notable example is probably in the MSQ where ishgardian astrologians predict the awakening of Midgardsomr.

Very quickly dropping in despite your question being answered. There are a few instances in various places across Eorzea where characters have or could have some form of foresight.

One might be specific to a line of Padjals, or hearers but its possible this gift could manifest in others:

The next is the use of Astrologian, whether by using the Ishgardian version or the Sharlayan origin of the magick. Both monitor, track, and manipulate the aether of the stars to be psuedo-seers. Lore on the Astrologian can be found here.

Finally, and most likely is the use of the Echo. Every incarnation of the Echo renders a slight variation in its gift and with varying strengths. A compilation of Echo Lore can be found here. The reason I bring the Echo up specifically is because while many (and the most commonly known) iterations of the Echo allow the user to delve into another's past, the Echo has been known to gift other visions! Such as Farsight.

As for necromancy, it does actually exist in the XIV canon, though rare! There are undead, even those who retain their former memories and personalities - called Fomors. Lore on necromancy can be found here and lore on the various forms of undead can be found here.
