Hello friends!

Is your character a wealthy/upper class individual currently residing in Gridania, Limsa Lominsa or Ishgard? Is he/she also a connoisseur of fine textiles, perhaps an established weaver? Is he/she looking to invest in new business ventures or simply interested in general banter over dinner?

My character, Karim Noh Omari the 3rd, is being set to take over the family business over the next few years. The Omari trading company mainly specializes in exporting Ul'dahn textiles of the highest quality and is known for being closely affiliated with the Sunsilk Tapestries. As Karim's father is becoming too old to travel outside of the city, he is sending his son to all three of the city states (bar Ul'dah), representing him as the new face of the company. The main goal of this trip is to not only to find new potential business partners, but also to reinforce relationships with existing ones. As such, it is possible for your character to already be in business with us, but to never have met Karim. I'm open to all possibilities!

Notes:

-My playtime is usually on evenings on thursday/friday/weekends.

-If your character is from Ul'dah, I'm also interested! (I will gladly roleplay with you once he is back!)

-This post is not only -business- related, I'm also looking for general RP connections and new friends!

Not sure Gridania has any nobles. Though there are probably wealthier individuals within the city-state, but as far as I know, any surplus the city-state produces generally gets returned to the forest per the Pact.

I want to say they do? At the very least I seem to remember there's a district you cannot access in Old Gridania that's specifically for either the nobility or the wealthier individuals. Though it's been awhile since I checked and I'm indisposed right now.

I'll edit my post as I'm not only looking for nobles (a term which seems to be used mostly regarding Ishgard anyway), but upper-class, wealthy citizens as well. Shouldn't have used the term "noble" loosely.

Yeah, we had this debate a while back. There is a section that's for "distinguished Gridanians," but that doesn't mean there are nobles. Given the way the city-state is governed, there simply isn't any room for nobility in the system, as far as I can tell. And those "distinguished Gridanians" may simply comprise the Hyur families noted for producing Padjal (such as the Cant and Senna families). While they may have some social distinction due to the honor of producing Padjal, it doesn't follow that they would have the same political power that an actual Noble would have.

There's a difference between wealthy individuals or those with a higher social-stature and actual nobles. Nobles have very real political power, and generally speaking, Nobility is not something you can work your way into. You are either born to it, or marry into it.

She was Duskwight, iirc (I may be wrong - hopefully Sounsyy will weigh in! Smile

). It was suggested that she might be Gelmorran (though how she could live openly in Gridania in that case is beyond me) or perhaps Ishgardian (since there's at least one Duskwight Ishgardian house that we know of, so it follows that there could be more minor houses).

Beyond that, I'm pretty sure a snowball has a better chance of surviving in hell than a Duskwight does of being a noble in a city-state that despises Duskwights.

Edit: I double-checked - Lady Amandine was a Duskwight. She's described as wealthy, and referred to as "Lady." Also, they sold Haukke to her because the citizens of Gridania felt the lavish manor was a symbol of excess.

Not really seeing the point of splitting hairs here. :/ Point is, OP's target demographic can also live in Gridania.

Wasn't there a plot line about Maisenta, the merchant around the corner from the crystal, financing a boy band out of her own pocket? She's pretty much rolling in gil.

And irl, historically, you could very much buy your way into the nobility.

But I believe "upper class" is the general term Karim is going for here. Too bad thread titles can't be adjusted. Sad

That said though, I do have an immensely rich Alchemist/Trader character who you could RP with! However, I'm only her by request so to speak. I technically have her older brother as well, but he takes little interest in the family business, so it is her you will have to deal with!

Her name is Lyanna Farborough, but I'm /mostly/ to be found on Avelyn Firestone. Just poke me ingame, and I'm sure we can figure something out Smile

Not really wanting to draw more attention away from the OP's intended connection-making (if I had a rich noble, I'd throw them at you!) but did want to quickly step in and drop some lore on Eorzea nobility, as it is a topic that crops up on the rpc every year or so.

There's a link within the link that discusses Gridania's "gentry" (a term most commonly referring to a social class just below nobility) in more detail. It also goes into the reasons why Lady Dartancours is most likely an Ishgardian noble and not Gridanian. Haukke Manor being forcibly taken away from the Padjal because it was a symbol of excess, being one of those many cited references.

That out of the way though- I think it's safe to say the OP's character is likely on the lookout for rich people, affluent merchants, or well-to-do trade tycoons of any nation, not just strictly nobility. Though, this being the son's early forays into cultures outside of Ul'dah's capitalistic approach, having him show up in Gridania and interact with characters who have little comparable concept to wealth or nobility in the eyes of an Ul'dahn would make for interesting RP I think.

Have they confirmed that there is actually a Duskwight noble house? Considering that Duskwight aren't native to Ishgard (as they're relatively young as a clan compared to Elezen as a whole, and came a far bit past the genesis of Ishgard) and they're not listed as being present (in general) anywhere but the Shroud in the lore book. Not saying there isn't, I'm actually asking what the whole authority of that is?Â

ON TOPIC, however, if you are looking for someone to RP with, my main could potentially be of some use to you. He is a somewhat estranged Ishgardian noble who is currently residing in the Shroud, essentially living off of his skills as an artisan. You can let me know if you wish to discuss it any further!
