Voted no for the same reason all the others voted no, plus while it may be good for socializing, I feel it detracts from RP, which is sort of the reason we're all here. Also I'm a visual sort of person and text works just fine for me. Voice chat is a headache of which I want no part.

As much as I enjoy voice chat, I don't agree with having a means of such. The whole "strengthening the community" doesn't make sense to me 'cause as far as I can tell and have been witnessing/experiencing, the community's already strong. Yeah, there's people who stand out more than others, but that just means they enjoy talking more (or putting themselves out there instead of lurking/staying on the sidelines).

I'm not into a cliquey atmosphere and that's been a problem with past MMO's I've RPed in. Guild Wars 2 being the prime example. While the community itself was big, you could easily tell who was part of what clique, and a lot of those not included in such groups had a hard time when it came to many things, RPing included.

Maybe I'm ranting, but it originally sounded like a good idea to have a means of voice chat until I read Kylin's post.

I want to reiterate that this is for OOC communication, and is in no way meant to be audio RP, lol. Those of us who make use of VoIP on a daily basis to talk with fellow RPers also do so while RPing, and if we get distracted simply jump channels or mute. We are not worse RPers for it either.

This topic isn't a debate on the pros or cons of VoIP, just to see how many people would use it so I'm not wasting my money. If you're not interested, that's great, if you are, please post your VoIP of preference, thanks!

Sorry, let me approach from a neutral perspective then:

I don't believe there'd be enough people to merit spending money on a server, which in turn would be a waste of money.

Which is why I'm polling to see how many people would use it! Smile

I completely agree. 100%. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I will piggy back on this though and say that even if it is OOC, hearing the voice of someone who is RPing a character I interact with might subconsciously effect how I view the character. I realize there's a big difference between the player and the character, but I can't say I'm a perfect enough RPer to completely ignore the human element.

Voted yes because if people want to use a VOIP for whatever reason, they should have it.

I support the idea of having a VoIP as an option for people who'd like to use it.

A lot of the time, when I'm in my own private mumble of friends, I either move to a private room or move to a RP channel to be alone and let me focus on the RP at hand. VoIP has never gotten in the way of my RP personally.

When I'm not RPing, I like to socialize with people and make new friends. The friends I met on mumble, I've known for nearly 3 years now, and while they aren't the only people I hang out with, I log in because I love socializing with them and would like to with othesr as well.

Having the human element is something that helps keep things that happen IC, well, IC. It allows me to detach myself from my character and also break down my social walls so I meet new people. It also is incredibly useful when I do endgame content.

I think that having a VoIP server for the community wouldn't be detrimental as its simply an option for people to use, and options are never bad, imo. Regardless if there are people who say they won't be making use of it, there are still people who would. Perhaps create one and expand it as need be so you're not wasting money? I'm sure people who want it will use it in due time Smile

I don't think the vote is really addressing whether it should be done or not. The RPC really has no place regulating social activities of the roleplayers anyways. As Deirdre said, this is more to gauge interest and what sort of server options we should into investing in, and whether we should pay for it or not.

I'm abstaining from voting since I'm not super huge for voice chat, but if it was there I might use it on rare occasions. I might also never use it. So yeah, going neutral here.

I think it would be interesting, but if there are more
than 4 on the chat, won't that be very chaotic in the
long run?

I think it's very nice of ya Deirdre if you're setting

So to summarize, I think it does more harm than good. That's just me though.

^^^^^ A thousand times.

It's also a pain in the ass to try to RP with people talking in your ears, but you feel left out if you leave. A huge no, from me. No.

And, for those of us who cannot always be ON said mumble due to RL (I dont like being on VOIP when my husband is home, because it cuts him off from conversation with me and is rude to him), it is just another way of being left out.

Different people get left out of a lot of things for a lot of different reasons. Generally, a choice to do one thing is a choice to not do something else.

I'm going to be very busy come game release with graduate school and two RP shells going on, so the time that I'll have to really hang out in a voice chat isn't going to be much, if even possible. Just like a lot of people will be able to RP more and play the game more than I'm likely to be able to. But that's the reality of my situation and my commitments.

But that's my situation. If other people have time and want to do something like this, I think they should be able to. As in, my choices and my situation should not impact how other people spend their time.

I think it's better left to more specific Linkshells and Free Companies to run their own VoIP chats. They can always invite outsiders to join in when they want to chat. So many of us are already on Skype and can use that for any impromptu voice chat with particular people.

I'm concerned that this will inevitably alienate those who do not want to use it. I wouldn't like to speak, and just sitting in there listening without saying anything would make me feel like a creeper, whatever the reassurances of anyone participating. On the flipside, many of those who do participate will drift away from more accessible communication options, because they're too busy concentrating on listening or just feel they don't need them so much.

Just looking at how split the vote is gives me great concern. Deir, I know you're not looking for debate, but what you're proposing is something that could have an adverse affect on the community. A debate can't be avoided, whether a civil one now or an explosive one later. Whether it's in the name of the RPC or Intermission, it's a general RP community thing. It affects everyone, whether we participate or not.
