It's more the attitude and complete amorality I'm talking about. If it wasn't for his foster father, he would be oh so much worse. So I would say Dexter without the Code of Harry.

Dexter doesn't really do it for justice, he just satisfies his... needs... by killing bad people. It's how he justifies his behavior. His father drilled it into his head that killing innocent people was wrong, even if he doesn't believe it.
But enough about Dexter! Why wouldn't your character do anything good? |

*Still think she's the only person who was disappointed by the ending of season one of Dexter, mainly because she had figured out so long in advance*

Well I guess that's technically wrong about him not doing anything good...I'm trying to work out the character with Kashemia right now. However I suppose in him doing good it'd all be part of a larger plan. Meaning do X in order to gain Y so that Z can be done. Stuff like that....

Not a rabid chihuahua. A different kind of chihuahua but not a rabid one.

I'm hoping it goes well. However one thing I wonder is....what happens after it's all figured out. What happens after the jig is up and the main protagonist in your story has that ONE encounter with you? The one that explains it all, the bee's knees man! Where do you go from there?

That's the rub isn't it? Villainy can only last so long. But that's also the fun of Roleplay. Try not to plan too far ahead of time and just see where it goes. You'll find your character growing in ways you didn't even expect.

Yeah, I wouldn't plan too far ahead either.
But there's always the possibility of a 180 turn, that he eventually grows good (or better at least), that you'll lose interest in playing him anyway at that point, that he pretends to be good but really just plot a new thing, etc. It all depends on where the story is at the point, but yes, I completely agree with ArmaichA , that is one of the tough things about playing a villain. ![]() I came for the ERP, I stayed for the free booze. |

My main (Castiel) will be more of an antagonist than anything else. I've played the role of villain several times before and it took me quite some time to finally grow into the role and "master" it. The "cartoony" villain as people are calling it is certainly a no-no. If you want your character to be a murdering type, fine. But don't go around slaughtering people in public places where you would technically get arrested instantly. Or at least, don't do it in public places unless you plan to RP a rather epic confrontation/chase scene with the law.
The goal is to not back yourself into a corner. This is why I love playing a villain. It's usually quite a challenge and requires some quick thinking most of the times. I didn't really master this technique until one of my later villains in FFXI, Belledora. And even then, I was still learning some tricks. You have to realize that when you do something "bad," everyone around you is going to respond accordingly. They'll stop trusting your character and depending on how severe the case is, they'll actually start coming after you. I learned these kind of things in FFXI's RP community so it's hard to really explain it all. So try to be subtle and not "omg I am evil!! Look what I can do!" You also have to remember to give your character goals and a purpose rather than just saying they're a villain. Your character shouldn't see him/herself as a villain at all. |
