Hello everyone~ I am fairly new to FFXIV roleplay and I'm curious about the situation with Voidsent and hunters.Â

I see a lot of void hunters but they don't really go into too much detail about how they do it. What they do, how it affects people, how the void affects people blah blah blah.Â

I was looking into doing a character that essentially at the core is an 'Exorcist' of sorts. Their mobility is limited from a prior injury but they are still decently mobile and able to get around. Just maybe not as quickly as they once did. Very religion oriented, older character.

Is it possible to defeat some Voidsent without the use of ( or minimal )direct combat?

I know that mentioning Voidsent in Eorzea is taboo to the core, is a job that centers around them also considered taboo? Even if you were to be eradicating them, would that leave people very skeptical about you in general?

Is there any large amount of information, canonly about voidsentÂ that has a decent amount of information in it?

Is there any large amount of information on voidsentÂ that I personally could read to better understand them?

Void- touched ... what is that all about? I see people playing void creatures, demons, a thing of the like is it like being tempered or can you be void touched/ taken over (if they are different things) but return to a normal life with not much trouble after the voidsent is destroyed?

Do Voidsent have a certain type of aether that makes them fairly easy to detect usually?

I know these are a lot of question and if someone wants to pm me or something I would hardly mind, I don't have the money for the lorebookÂ so if the answer to these are in there sadly I don't have the access to one. Any information that anyone can give me would be great <3 thank you.

Finish the Warring Triad raid questline to find out what the Void and the Voidsent really are. The PotD and Haukke Manor quests are likewise other sources of canon info.

Actually something similar got touched upon a couple months back. You should definitely check out this post and the one above it for some relevant lore. It should answer most of those questions.

There is... a ton of info on Voidsent, actually. Though how much of that lore is the 100% truth is actually kinda grey. FFXIV is really big on unreliable narrators and we learn new things about different topics every day.

The void gets a pretty big plot twist in the Warring Triad questline and info in the Haukke Manor, Crystal Tower, and Mhach storylines. So I'd definitely recommend reading into those. There's also a lot of info in the Encyclopedia Eorzea, which Kilieit has done an excellent job of transcribing here!

Gamerescape also has some pretty good links to more info on individual voidsent and on the Void here. You'll find that not only are the voidsent in each rung of the hierarchy different, but the properties and means by which voidsent may enter this world are also just as varied. For example:

As pointed above, the generally accepted solution against voidsent possession is death of the host. Unless you can tempt the voidsent out of the host by offering a way more powerful host instead, it's just better to kill the host before the voidsent completes their growth and toss the body away once done with it, and turn into their true, way more dangerous void form: voidsent usually get through the passage from the Void to the physical realm through tears, and the bigger the voidsent, the bigger the tear must be... which can be partially circumvented by powerful voidsent to instead seep without their corporeal form through smaller tears and take possession of mortals, using them as vessels to build back their lost power.

An exorcist to me would basically be a 'janitor' sort of guy. A death bringer, bringing mercy on the possessed souls. It would be a gritty work more than anything else. The profession would likely be to kill the threat in its egg before anything dire happens. Religion is not hard to throw above the idea, especially for someone worshipping Thal, the divinity of death and afterlife.

That could be kinda taboo yeah. The kind of guy you resort to when something shitty happens with voidsent, to clean up things, no questions asked. Not that dissimilar to a Witcher if you will.

Probably the sort of guy that often has to fight tooth and nail with the more ignorant population that don't want to sacrifice their possessed loved ones.

Void-touch as far as I know, is of the realm of player fanon. Lore only covers void possession quite deeply. The closest thing to lore I could see is extrapolating Void Taint which manifests through the realm where voidsent fester when left uncontrolled (cf, CNJ jobquest in the Shroud). Since it taints the environment, it means it can taint anything alive. However, it's a taint, a disease, probably akin to being irradiated IRL or something as creepy as that. It's not "touched" as players intend it usually. It's ill. Like spreading gangrene. Which can or cannot turn you into a void abomination eventually, once you are - mostly - dead already (Void creatures were once normal people in their own realm, the 13rd Shard). Oh well. It's basically Nurgle, in short.

Yes, voidsent are "extremely easy" to detect through the use of aetherometers, but those are not exactly cheap and you would have to know where to look. A bit like with a geiger counter IRL.

Pretty sure void touched is not a thing in lore. It's just something players do to be involved with void magic/creatures while avoiding the blame and consequences that it entails (Death or Banishment from Society).

This is SUPER helpful information, worded in a way that even my ass could understand. Thank you so much! You really helped me pinpoint an area that feels very nice to start in. I am trying to make the character as grounded as possible, I know people look at the voidsentÂ ideas and scoff 90% of the time and I'd like to hopefully do it in a way that sounds legit and not lore breaky or 'extremely edgy'. Think this helped me out A LOT thank you!
