Y'know, SWTOR has actually had this kinda thing for... well, since launch. And I don't think it's opposite-sex restricted anymore, either.

You can't have same sex relationships with companions. They did throw in some random npcs at endgame that you can have pretty meaningless hookups with same sex :p

That owes a lot to SWTOR's background as a spiritual successor to the KotOR RPGs, in which romance-on-the-side was more or less a standard feature.

I'd rather they let us romance our retainers.

I mean, it'd make a lot more sense than every single player romancing the same story NPCs.

If you're going to break protocol and cross the threshold between romantic and professional relationships, you may as well do it right!

While I wouldn't have any aversion to romancing my incredibly awesome retainer, I still wouldn't pass up a chance to romance Minfilia. Oh, Minfilia, if only you were real and thought I was awesome.
