i just got ARR yesterday and as soon as i can get into one of the RP servers i plan on making a Human Gladiator. I was introduced to RP about a year ago on star wars the old republic and i love it. that being said, this is my first final fantasy game and i don't really know much about the lore, but I'm really hoping to learn all i can.

 Advice on the servers: Balmung is usually open in the early hours of the day. As in like 6-7 AM ET and such, I've heard.Humans are Hyurs around here, and we could always use more! Enjoy yourself, browse the wiki (linked above). It has some lore on your new race!

Highlander hyur are much more rare than midlanders if you want to go with the less 'popular' variant.

Welcome to the RPC! I also knew nothing about the lore when I first started and, whilst I'm by no means an expert, I've learnt a lot since then. Read up and don't be afraid to ask questions. There's a ton of information on these forums alone.

Lore is an interesting thing in this game. It's elusive and rarely gets handed to you, and the facts may not always be "fact." That said, I'll link you a few of my favorite places to get lore. And feel free to ask more lore questions on the RPC! Lore Hot-spots: -Official Lore Forum -Race Heights -Azurymber's Lore Guide -An Eorzean Timeline -FFXIV Maps -The Grand Companies of Eorzea -Eorzean Newspaper Articles -The Autumn War -The Lore Train -1.0 Lominsan Story Arc Discussion -1.0 Ul'dahn Story Arc Discussion -1.0 Gridanian Story Arc Discussion -Gamer Escape Interviews Fernehalwes -Time Measurement in Eorzea -Eorzean Units of Measurement In-game you can also find many small lore references throughout the many hundreds of quests in Eorzea. But I find the best place to get concentrated lore about a topic is to complete the Class and Job quests, then return to those NPCs. Those NPCs will now offer you lore about your disciple as well as some other current events. Happy hunting and enjoy the vast world of Hydaelyn! ^^
