Some friends convinced me to give FFXIV a try several months back, and I've really enjoyed it. The one downside, however, is that they are not RPers, and my character is on Ultros -- a perfectly nice server, but not a ton of RP that I've found.
After doing a little digging, I found this wonderful website and realized that, as I am interested in roleplaying in FFXIV, I probably should roll an alt on Balmung, so that's exactly what I've done. Currently, I have Reynaud Perdeaux, a duskwight marauder ex-pirate currently loping around Limsa Lominsa.
I've played roleplaying games for years, beginning with tabletop (AD&D, GURPS, and Deadlands are probably my favorites) and dipping into many of the MMO variety as well (EverQuest, City of Heroes, FFXI, Galaxies, WoW, Old Republic, and now FFXIV).
While playing on an RP server, my personal preference is to stay IC other than in agreed-upon OOC channels, but it doesn't bother me if other folks slip OOC stuff into conventionally IC spaces. I'm pretty easy-going in general; I like playing supporting characters in other folks' storylines more than I enjoy pushing my own storyline forward, and I usually prefer freeform/improv/reactionary RP more than I do pre-scripted sequences and such.
Out of game, I work full-time, am married to a non-gamer, and have a 5-year-old daughter, so my in-game play time can be spotty. I'm usually on in the evenings after 9 Eastern a few times per week.
Ideally, I'd like to find some Linkshells and a Free Company that wouldn't mind an erratic schedule and wouldn't be insulted if I dip in and out of the game.
I really love the lore and setting of FFXIV and I am looking forward to adventuring through Eorzea with other people who enjoy playing in-character. I'd appreciate any suggestions, advice, or other thoughts anyone might toss my way.
