Three months ago I entered FFXIV:AAR for the first time. I found this site, and shortly thereafter discovered that I couldn't create a character on Gilgamesh or Balmung. At that time, the next best option appeared to be Siren.
I'm very glad I did! The RP community there is active, with some great guilds. While RPers are in the minority, in all my random RPing in taverns, cities, etc., I've run into a good number of players happy to engage in a little RP interaction. I was only trolled twice, and both times they quickly left once they were ignored and blacklisted.
It took me a while to discover http://sirenrp.enjin.com/, the coordinating website for RP on the server. A number of guilds have weekly events, and people planning server-wide RP events are active on the forums there.
Best of all, since RPers are in the minority, everyone is positive and friendly toward each other, and very tolerant of different RP styles. The friends I've made there are great people, and obviously experienced RPers (as well as experienced players of the game).
If you drop in on the server and want to say hello, don't be shy. I can be found, usually, in the late afternoon and some weekend days (Mountain Time) as Merwyda Mhaswyn, and later at night (after 10-11pm Mountain) as Ajih Jhilsu'tan.
