If you like fun, friendly chatty linkshells that are randomly OOC and IC, we're for you! There isn't really a rule on when the LS is to be used IC or OOC, but you'll pick up on the social cues. Something that I had noticed in my time on Balmung, while surrounded by the opportunities of role play available in the Quicksand at Ul'dah, the tournament style of the Grindstone, and other smaller pockets within the wards of residences...never have I seen us take a hold of the dungeons in our realm and use it to our advantage to tell more stories, while reaping the benefits of experience and loot from the caverns and halls of battle.

This is why a decision was made, so that for those seeking to try and seize every bit of the game for what we can and more, now comes the introduction of the

The LS is meant as a place outside of the normal places expected to find RP; to be able to run with people IN CHARACTER through dungeons that you and your chosen assembled group decide on! Everything in channel is still OOC, and is meant to be run by the people as a whole, not one king to rule them all. Everyone has the opportunity to bring in new people that wish to share and create the enthusiasm and liveliness that we experience when we create our stories to share with others. 

Only rule is - Don't be a jerk.


Past that, hopefully many people who wouldn't interact before, now have the chance to do so while being able to reap the benefits of the game's dungeons. Gil, equipment, EXPERIENCE (if the group chooses to sync the dungeon)... all accessible while still feeling like your character as you mow down your enemy and go to seek what you came for.Tonberry

A note is placed on various job-posting boards in Gridania but would over time also show up in Limsa Lominsa and Ul’dah. It would appear to be random gibberish at first glance but closer inspection by those with a decent amount of intelligence will be able to decipher it.

TL;DR:Imagine the events of Patch 3.4 but a third group saying: Light nor Shadow isn’t the path, it’s Balance! They operate from the shadows, using a pawnshop in Gridania as a front and their base.

Introduction and Concept

Scales of Balance is a new RP Linkshell (with the potential to grow into a Free Company) that seeks to combine various aspects regarding the current state of the MSQ into a new original storyline for its members from a completely new and unique angle.

Masquerading as an organisation owning a pawnshop located in Gridania named ‘Checks & Balances’, the actual goal of the ‘Scales’ are to keep Eorzea in a ‘Status Quo’. An example of this would be to avoid the Eorzean Alliance, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and the Warrior of Light itself to grow in power to the point where it would ‘overpower’ the side of shadow and make the Eorzean Alliance too powerful in the world. On the other hand, the Scales would also work actively against forces that would seek to completely overthrow Eorzea such as the Garlean Empire and the Ascians.

This means that the group essentially doesn’t have any allies as they tend to act according to a completely unique agenda that is often hard to follow for those not deeply ingrained in the Scales way of working. As such, to cover their personal finances, the group will often be seen working for both the ‘official authorities’ such as the Adders but doesn’t shy away from taking contracts of questionable intend and origin.

Because the Scales have such a strange view of Eorzea and trying to violently keep it as it is now, their deeds aimed against the side of ‘Light’ and thus the Eorzean Alliance would be considered as acts of treason meaning that the organisation often operates from the shadows. Meanwhile, the Scales are also at odds with the Garlean Empire and since Eorzea is riddled with their spies, the group also needs to keep their true intentions a secret to them. All of this means that membership is kept on an extremely tight leash and every member is expected to keep their ties to the group a secret. Failure to comply with these rules is almost surely to be met with a violent end. That doesn’t mean no one can leave: Long as someone promises not to speak of their time in the Scales, they’re free to leave.

Finally,the Scales aren’t ‘evil’. Although they may work against the Eorzean Alliance for 50% of the time, they won’t kill any innocents or folk who have nothing to do with the task at hand just to cause ‘chaos’. However, if soldiers of the Eorzean Alliance are standing between the Scales and their goal to keep the Status Quo intact, they won’t shy away from violence.

What sort of characters would be a good fit?
Characters who can keep a secret. The organisation can eventually make a name for themselves, but at this point in time, it would be completely unknown who it's members are. Secrecy would be the most predominant requirement any member would have in the Scales. Apart from that, the following ideals a character would have are a good fit for the group:
  • A character who believes that neither the Path of Light (White Magic) nor the Path of Shadow (Black Magic) are the paths to follow but instead seeks balance in what is 'right' and what is 'wrong'.
  • A character who wishes to share knowledge, even if it's not a popular move for the Eorzean Alliance, Sharlayan, The Garlean Empire, etc.
  • A character who wishes to share the truth about many secrets to the greater world and public.
  • A character who wants to defend innocent bystanders while also making Gil.
  • A character who fervently believes that any magical and technological progress in study should be shared with the greater world.
  • A character with a Neutral and Educated view of the world, who doesn't take 'no' for an answer but wants to know the nitty gritty about many different topics.
  • Characters should also not be squeamish and be willing to get their hands dirty though they will never be forced to kill innocents. They need to fervently belief in ‘the cause’ for it will take them to the very depths and heights of Eorzea and beyond, including the possibility of criminal record if their involvement in the group gets leaked out. 
What sort of players would be a good fit?
It is expected that certain plotlines will take us to grounds thread by mature rated novels, movies and games. As such it is better that squeamish folk don’t apply. On the other hand, if you like to immerse yourself into a cause that often explores the questions: “What is good? What does it mean? Is evil really evil? Are the ‘good guys’ actually the ‘good guys”...you’re in the right place. Smile

It is also advised that the player is of a certain mature age with at least a couple of years of mature life experience under his or her belt to better appreciate the content of the stories and to best fit in with the theme of the group.

Finally, since we're just going to be starting out, players who like to create their own RP are encouraged. Although I'll strive to create roughly 2 to 3 events each week depending on demand, most of the interaction will be aimed at 'random RP' out in the world or in the Headquarters (the Checks and Balances shop). Updates regarding the storyline will be posted in Discord to avoid that players who can't attend all events are missing out on the plot at hand.

What is the expected path the Linkshell or Free Company will take?
We’re going to start off on an extremely small scale, imagine less than a handful to get the initial start going. Once we’ve had a while to mature the concept and really get our bearings and RP traditions ingrained in our characters, we’ll take a decision with regards to keeping the concept a Linkshell but let it sprawl out to a larger group of members or to mature it further to an actual Free Company + housing.

This is an OOC Linkshell for communications and RP scheduling to other members of the Irmegiin Tribe. It is based in the Mateus Server, and recruitment is by invitation, which you can do by messaging me in game at Sarduu Irmegiin, or on Discord at Fairywren#3411.


Questions



What kind of tribe are the Irmegiin?

The Irmegiin are an old, nearly ancient tribe recently founded again. They are mostly peaceful, not picking fights on their own, but are also not to be underestimated in combat, and could easily finish a fight if it is brought to them. As far as skills go, though, they are a jack-of-all-trades sort, not excelling greatly in any particular set of skills as a whole, but individuals within the tribe can posses various skills. Most often seen in the tribe are Healers, Hunters of various types, Leatherworkers, Weavers, Gatherers, Miners, and Fishers. Living wise they are nomadic, staying in one place for two weeks at max before packing up and moving on. While they prefer their homeland of the Steppes, this tribe of 30 or so Xaela have also been known to travel throughout Othard and Eorzea as well. Because the tribe is rather small and somewhat close-knit community wise, it isn't uncommon for Irmegiin -who aren't even particularly considered close friends- to do things such as cuddle close for warmth or even bathe nearby each other without any kind of sexual or romantic implications. One of the mains things to note about Irmegiin is that you will see all of them with literal glowing limbal rings in their eyes. It's a shared trait through the entire tribe, and one cannot be considered an Irmegiin without it. It is believed by them to hold importance in one's soul to have limbal rings that glow. Another note of importance is that all adult Irmegiin have at least one bead tied to their horns. Each bead states a significant event in the wearer's life, and each color has a meaning. The beads come in various shapes and sized. Last main thing about this tribe is that they are all highly superstitious, even if some of their superstitions make little to no sense to others. They believe in them highly still. The Khan or Khatun of this tribe are chosen by lineage. The son or daughter chosen by the previous Khan or Khatun is to become the next. If that particular family line dies out, then the next Khan or Khatun is chosen among the rest of the members. Ones who are chosen are typically middle-aged, still capable of having children, and skilled and/or wise, usually shown by how many beads they have. Ones with red beads are typically not chosen, because that shows that they have committed murder, and that can cause unease within the tribe.




How can I join the Irmegiin Tribe?


OOC, you can join by contacting me through the information at the top of the page. Raen have never before joined this tribe, but it can still be discussed on how by messaging me, because I am not opposed to the idea of it. If your character does not have glowing limbal rings, I would ask that you think about the idea of it. It can easily be something that's changed by the aesthetician. If you're open to the idea, but don't want to just change it and say 'oh my character has always had glowing limbal rings' then there is an IC solution to that. In the ancient days of the Irmegiin, they had a ritual of sorts that would fully 'awaken' someone's soul, thus supposedly causing their limbal rings to glow. Though I know that is not true to lore, the process of what actually happens to cause that is unknown. The ritual is only known by the current Khan or Khatun, and is passed down the generations. An Au Ra from a separate tribe hasn't joined the Irmegiin since the days of old, the knowledge of this process is still kept. 



Can an Irmegiin leave it's tribe for good?

I suppose it's possible, but very unlikely for an in-born tribe Irmegiin. When a member of the tribe abandons or is banished from the tribe, they must strip their own beads, removing them from their horns themselves. While this might not seem so bad to someone who is not naturally an Irmegiin, to them it is essentially stripping their own life away. Banishing is not at all done lightly, and is only used for severe punishment, as most Irmegiin who strip their beads very often die of grief some time afterward.




An Irmegiin's Beads


When an Irmegiin first comes of age, at 15, they carve their first bead. The process begins by going out on a hunt. Whether they choose to go it alone or take others with is up to them, as long as they have a hand in the killing of the beast. Once the kill has been made, the young Irmegiin cleans the kill his or herself, choosing the bone at which to carve their bead as they do so. Once the bead is carved and hollowed out (this can sometimes take many attempts since this is their first time making a bead), they take it to the Khan or Khatun of their tribe, who is the only one who knows of the ingredients and how to mix them for the specific paint they use. If the bead needs dyed a certain color on the outside, that is done first. All beads, however, have a special glow-in-the-dark paint on the inside of them, and is always in the color to match the wearer's limbal ring color. Once the bead is finished, and being worn by the young Irmegiin, they are officially considered an adult among the tribe. This process is the same for joining members, and after their glowing limbal color is awakened, and they are wearing their first bead, they are officially apart of the tribe. 


Bead Colors and Meanings
  • Undyed- Coming of Age
  • Pure White- Marriage. Some can have multiple of this bead depending on how many times they've been married.
  • Red- Committed Murder. Some can have multiple of this bead depending on how many people they have murdered.
  • Orange- Mastering the Art of Leatherworking
  • Yellow- A Valuable Treasure Found. Typically in the literal sense. If one were to stumble upon something of immense value, they would earn this bead. It can be earned multiple times. 
  • Light Green- Mastering the Art of Healing
  • Dark Green- Accomplishment of a Personal Goal. As long as its still something of feat, of course. It can be accompanied by another bead, such as if one's goal was to discover a huge treasure, master a specific art, or get revenge by killing another.
  • Light Blue- Mastering the Art of Weaving
  • Dark Blue- Mastering the Art of Gathering
  • Lavender- Birth of a Daughter. Some can have multiple of this bead depending on how many daughters they've had. It applies for adopting as well.

Irmegiin Clothing/Attire


Typically Irmegiin where something tribal related, but with their recent migration into other parts of Othard and Eorzea, they have been known to wear clothing native to those regions as well. Their tribal color, however, which is on at least one piece of clothing that they wear (usually the chest piece), is in Seafog Blue. As before stated, their beads that they always wear come in all shapes and sizes (though usually simpler shapes), but color only aligns with what the bead was earned for.


Language of the Irmegiin


Members of the tribe in the days of old solely spoke Xaelan, but with borders opening and travel into the foreign lands becoming more common, some members have been known to speak all sorts of language.]]> Welcome


This is an OOC Linkshell for communications and RP scheduling to other members of the Irmegiin Tribe. It is based in the Mateus Server, and recruitment is by invitation, which you can do by messaging me in game at Sarduu Irmegiin, or on Discord at Fairywren#3411.


Questions



What kind of tribe are the Irmegiin?

The Irmegiin are an old, nearly ancient tribe recently founded again. They are mostly peaceful, not picking fights on their own, but are also not to be underestimated in combat, and could easily finish a fight if it is brought to them. As far as skills go, though, they are a jack-of-all-trades sort, not excelling greatly in any particular set of skills as a whole, but individuals within the tribe can posses various skills. Most often seen in the tribe are Healers, Hunters of various types, Leatherworkers, Weavers, Gatherers, Miners, and Fishers. Living wise they are nomadic, staying in one place for two weeks at max before packing up and moving on. While they prefer their homeland of the Steppes, this tribe of 30 or so Xaela have also been known to travel throughout Othard and Eorzea as well. Because the tribe is rather small and somewhat close-knit community wise, it isn't uncommon for Irmegiin -who aren't even particularly considered close friends- to do things such as cuddle close for warmth or even bathe nearby each other without any kind of sexual or romantic implications. One of the mains things to note about Irmegiin is that you will see all of them with literal glowing limbal rings in their eyes. It's a shared trait through the entire tribe, and one cannot be considered an Irmegiin without it. It is believed by them to hold importance in one's soul to have limbal rings that glow. Another note of importance is that all adult Irmegiin have at least one bead tied to their horns. Each bead states a significant event in the wearer's life, and each color has a meaning. The beads come in various shapes and sized. Last main thing about this tribe is that they are all highly superstitious, even if some of their superstitions make little to no sense to others. They believe in them highly still. The Khan or Khatun of this tribe are chosen by lineage. The son or daughter chosen by the previous Khan or Khatun is to become the next. If that particular family line dies out, then the next Khan or Khatun is chosen among the rest of the members. Ones who are chosen are typically middle-aged, still capable of having children, and skilled and/or wise, usually shown by how many beads they have. Ones with red beads are typically not chosen, because that shows that they have committed murder, and that can cause unease within the tribe.




How can I join the Irmegiin Tribe?


OOC, you can join by contacting me through the information at the top of the page. Raen have never before joined this tribe, but it can still be discussed on how by messaging me, because I am not opposed to the idea of it. If your character does not have glowing limbal rings, I would ask that you think about the idea of it. It can easily be something that's changed by the aesthetician. If you're open to the idea, but don't want to just change it and say 'oh my character has always had glowing limbal rings' then there is an IC solution to that. In the ancient days of the Irmegiin, they had a ritual of sorts that would fully 'awaken' someone's soul, thus supposedly causing their limbal rings to glow. Though I know that is not true to lore, the process of what actually happens to cause that is unknown. The ritual is only known by the current Khan or Khatun, and is passed down the generations. An Au Ra from a separate tribe hasn't joined the Irmegiin since the days of old, the knowledge of this process is still kept. 



Can an Irmegiin leave it's tribe for good?

I suppose it's possible, but very unlikely for an in-born tribe Irmegiin. When a member of the tribe abandons or is banished from the tribe, they must strip their own beads, removing them from their horns themselves. While this might not seem so bad to someone who is not naturally an Irmegiin, to them it is essentially stripping their own life away. Banishing is not at all done lightly, and is only used for severe punishment, as most Irmegiin who strip their beads very often die of grief some time afterward.




An Irmegiin's Beads


When an Irmegiin first comes of age, at 15, they carve their first bead. The process begins by going out on a hunt. Whether they choose to go it alone or take others with is up to them, as long as they have a hand in the killing of the beast. Once the kill has been made, the young Irmegiin cleans the kill his or herself, choosing the bone at which to carve their bead as they do so. Once the bead is carved and hollowed out (this can sometimes take many attempts since this is their first time making a bead), they take it to the Khan or Khatun of their tribe, who is the only one who knows of the ingredients and how to mix them for the specific paint they use. If the bead needs dyed a certain color on the outside, that is done first. All beads, however, have a special glow-in-the-dark paint on the inside of them, and is always in the color to match the wearer's limbal ring color. Once the bead is finished, and being worn by the young Irmegiin, they are officially considered an adult among the tribe. This process is the same for joining members, and after their glowing limbal color is awakened, and they are wearing their first bead, they are officially apart of the tribe. 


Bead Colors and Meanings
  • Undyed- Coming of Age
  • Pure White- Marriage. Some can have multiple of this bead depending on how many times they've been married.
  • Red- Committed Murder. Some can have multiple of this bead depending on how many people they have murdered.
  • Orange- Mastering the Art of Leatherworking
  • Yellow- A Valuable Treasure Found. Typically in the literal sense. If one were to stumble upon something of immense value, they would earn this bead. It can be earned multiple times. 
  • Light Green- Mastering the Art of Healing
  • Dark Green- Accomplishment of a Personal Goal. As long as its still something of feat, of course. It can be accompanied by another bead, such as if one's goal was to discover a huge treasure, master a specific art, or get revenge by killing another.
  • Light Blue- Mastering the Art of Weaving
  • Dark Blue- Mastering the Art of Gathering
  • Lavender- Birth of a Daughter. Some can have multiple of this bead depending on how many daughters they've had. It applies for adopting as well.
  • Violet- Birth of a Son. Some can have multiple of this bead depending on how many sons they've had. It applies for adopting as well. 
  • Brown- Mastering the Art of Hunting.
  • Gray- Mastering the Art of Mining

Our base of operations is located at the Vylbrand Cultural Arts & Research Center;a home for scholarly research, investigation, martial training and adventurous exploration.
