RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Cailean Lockwood - 01-03-2015

I haven't even put either of my characters on it yet... And I'm not sure I should.

Most of my characters' backgrounds are off-cam, so to speak. Their pasts and what they've done so far are mostly things I have come up with, not something I have RP'ed out with others. Yes, they are rather new, as I have been on and off FFXIV, created new characters, alts, changed the ones I had until I finally settled with those I have now... and I have my eyes on the Au Ra which I will make a new main as and start over, more or less.

So the things I would write about on my characters' wiki sites would be my own fanfiction and not accomplishments done through online RP. So far, the only thing I can write about that a character of mine has actually done through RP is a love story which I played out with a fantastic RP'er who has become a good friend of mine.

... But that's still "just" one thing.

What do you guys think?
Even though I haven't gotten alot of RP plots played out with my characters, but are mostly headcanon, should I write their wiki sites?
Or should I wait until I've done some more RP and get something to write about?

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Kellach Woods - 01-03-2015

I personally say do it - If they're created and you're sure you want to keep playing them. It helps to see it on the page and correct any possible plot holes you might have unwittingly introduced in their background.

It also allows others to see and possibly critique or add to your character's rumors for the few people who've already played with you.

Might be an expected answer, but I'd say do what you want. Kellach saying "Do it" makes me want to back him up, though! And adding on to what Kellach says, if it's all head-canon it can help you keep things organized in your head, so long as you have the patience to put it all on paper and would remain interested in the character after the beans are slightly spilled. I know that I personally have problems enjoying characters after I spill out their entire history in a wiki or profile, but that can be easily remedied with a wordpad and simply snipping out or spoilering the history sections! It'd probably be best to advise to create a wiki on a character you intend on keeping, take it from me, because if it's a fling of an alt you might end up wanting to junk the wiki after deleting the character. xD

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Leomoon - 01-04-2015

I had to rewrite my whole character recently so my Wiki is mostly up to date, now I just need to to editing it here an there and learn how to add center things.

I'd agree with Kellach--go for it and put it out there if it's vital to your character's background or something that's shaped him/her into the person they are today.

Even if nobody ever visits my Wiki's, I like to have them out there as a dossier for anyone who'd like to random at me, and always have them plastered on my signature. Self-indulgent? Yep...but then, RP is kind of that anyway, but shared. Like a big-ass piece of tiramisu being eaten by two. Or more! :>

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Aaron - 01-04-2015

I edit mine every few days.

Only because im spontaneous with ideas and the longer I try to work em in the more I realize im doing too much.

Good thing most of my ideas I don't flat out work into my rp. Saves a lot of "this guy Aaron is a idiot. "

I throw my ideas out on the forum tho just incase it seems nice and all that. But 9/10 I get my ideas after watching too much anime so I scrap it.

Example! With the whole ice tails idea, I got that from Tokyo Ghoul. Then it hit me. . . Kaneki and Aaron already coincidentally LOOK ALIKE (Kaneki is anime Aaron basically when he's got white hair. He's also my avatar) and they both got Marie Antoinette syndrome. . I don't need to give Aaron the Tokyo Ghoul ability that's really a copy.

So I fantasiad his eyes back white and maybe made him paler.

Everything is good now.

I JUST made mine, and it still needs work... Particularly the TV Tropes part...

... that will take hours.

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Cailean Lockwood - 01-04-2015

Thank you guys for responding.
You've convinced me to make my characters' wiki sites. ^^

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Hyrist - 01-05-2015

Totally guilty of this.

Need to update Eric's profile, finish Lin's Profile, and START Hyrist's profile. And that's not including side characters... which I now have 4 of...

x.x

I just need to have time, completely undisturbed, and motivated to work on characters. Problem is, that's not easy to come by.

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Knight Kat - 01-06-2015

I check and update my wiki at least once a week. About once a month I review the whole thing to see if I need to make big changes.

Recently I just made a huge addition. I thought it was a neat idea, so I shall share it.

I added an "Character Journals, Stories and More" section.

It has direct links to all the Town Square posts that are based on my character's story. It even has a subsection for links to character development posts, and some threads I like to reference when I think about RP for my character.

I did this because the RPC is so busy that old threads get lost in history unless new posts are made to them. Unless people go back through pages and pages of history, they will never see the threads or posts. However, if they check my wiki, the links will always be bring them there.

I spent a lot of time yesterday and today doing edits to IC threads and posts I made nearly a -year- ago. It was rather fun and nostalgic. I had to retcon a few minor things, but for the most part, my character's story has been pretty consistent, and I feel proud of myself. Big Grin

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Kage - 01-06-2015

I stopped updating because I haven't done any substantial RP.

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Berrod Armstrong - 01-06-2015

I updated recently and I'll need to update AGAIN because aaaaghh. I'm so lazy! I wanna put more pretty pictures in, too. The ones I've got there make me cringe lol.

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Demitri Omni - 01-06-2015

I had barely made a thing for Demitri back when I RPed him, and it took some doing to force myself to write up a bio for Vielle. I'm pretty awful at descriptions, so I'm happy I managed to eke out the craptastic thing I did.

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Gegenji - 01-06-2015

I just noticed a few more player comments on my page, so I went around and did my best to return it in kind for most of them. Still need to think of a good one for Lili and Steel...

I also added a couple more folks to the ever-growing list of Chachan's relations. Ser Romy, Nira, Kage, Alexaria, and Howl have all been added to the list, and I still feel like there's a person or two I'm just blanking on and I feel terrible about it.

You know too many people, Chachan!

RE: "Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki" - Y'lani - 01-07-2015

I've just posted a Work in Progress wiki for Y'lani, complete with a tag for broken file links. How do you update the tags, anyway?

I'm liking it right now! Still stuck on the "Personality" section (and I know her personality, too!) since descriptive personality blurbs have never been my strong point.

Me: Oh, yes, <name> is... very strong-willed! Now here is all of her flaws!
Friends: You only listed her flaws, with the exception of strong-willed.
Me: I-I did? /goes back to edit it, can't think of anything/ ... She just has issues, okay?
Friends: /sigh/
