Re: Eorzean lore and facts - Moltove - 01-13-2013 Hate to cast raise on an older thread, but there's some nice bits of lore in it. The problem is, I've been trying to find the source, especially for the illnesses and poisons and the like, but all the links are broken and are unsearchable in the official forums. Is there still evidence these facts are still around? Are there more? Re: Eorzean lore and facts - Merri - 01-13-2013 Unfortunately, you'd have to have the 1.0 client installed and use a .DAT mining tool to dig up the old levequest information unless it's listed on another website. I can say with 99% confidence that the levequest information listed here is accurate, as I more or less copied word for word from the quest text before entering it here on this thread. Re: Eorzean lore and facts - Aysun - 01-13-2013 As far as the diseases, I think the only one that I personally never saw in-game was the Lycanthropy (which I'd still like to know: is it myth or a real disease in Eorzea?) one. I'd add to the list that Plague that afflicted only Hyurs, but I can't remember enough about it (I'll find out more in beta). The Lycanthropy I remember was explicitly from a faction guildleve concerning that one group of criminals. Their name is eluding me right now. A lot of the faction leves centered around their members. Anyways, one was a Lalafell who was rumored to have Lycanthropy, and the leve involved killing him and his pet wolves. And yeah, I don't remember much about that plague either. (Even though it was mentioned a ton. <_< Re: Eorzean lore and facts - Mtoto Wamoto - 01-13-2013 I still have the 1.0 Client installed and the FFXIV TOOL for viewing some of the .dat files. I'll try to dig up some things myself during the downtime. As a side note, during my time playing I would frequently jot down some of the lore tidbits concerning Radz at Han and Meracydia (sadly, all that is lost to me now since I can't find my notepad with all the details ; ; ) If I can find it, I'll send it your way. Also, this idea struck me awhile back: Why don't those who wish to contribute to this project for the community come together during Beta and actual release to harvest as much lore as possible? Perhaps have a certain group focus solely on Gridnanian lore and another group focus on things like Beastmen primarily. It would be a huge boon to the community and would help get more lore in more frequently. Again just a thought, but either way, I'm willing to offer a hand. :approve: Re: Eorzean lore and facts - Aysun - 01-13-2013 Maybe then we could actually put it on the wiki... x_x Re: Eorzean lore and facts - Gospel Gestalt - 01-14-2013 Mtoto Wamoto Wrote:I still have the 1.0 Client installed and the FFXIV TOOL for viewing some of the .dat files. It was also home to a more tribal and nomadic race. I don't think they ever said which race it was but I do know for sure the mask of the Kple Kple staff was originally from there and was brought over to Aldenard by a visiting tribe that was originally from Meracydia. What happened to them is beyond me because they never touched on it. "This staff is said to have been created by a powerful conjurer who took the taproot of an ancient rosewood tree burned to the ground by a levinbolt, and fixed to it a ceremonial sun mask used by the primitive tribes on the distant southern continent of Meracydia. The magicked weapon is said to grant its wielder the ability to hear the whispers of the elementals." It's simple, really >.<, especially if we put it all on the wiki-- We are the role players, after all! I'd be down, for sure! I need a reason to take a bit more time in my questing! RE: Eorzean lore and facts - Varus - 06-21-2013 I will add quotes and such that may help illuminate some questions about the FFXIV universe. These quotes will naturally be filled with spoilers, so be warned! RE: Eorzean lore and facts - Brave - 08-21-2013 So this is another great resource thread >< I've been trying to absorb as much info as possible but most of it is just me trying to find answers to my own questions. I guess something that I have yet to find (or maybe it's discussed in a quest that I've yet to experience since I'm a pretty low level) is anything regarding an afterlife or the concept of a soul.  There is a lot of info on this forum hidden behind spoiler walls that I might just have to examine but my quick glance didn't find anything.  I know the Nymeia governs fate and Nald'thal governs life and death but I've found little concerning the underworld and anything dealing with it. (heck what happens when a WHM raises someone, or when we fall in battle and show up in town >< *although the latter I'm sure is more just a game mechanic, I'm curious if there has been any explanation regarding this stuff) RE: Eorzean lore and facts - Mtoto Wamoto - 08-21-2013 (08-21-2013, 04:06 AM)Brave Wrote: I guess something that I have yet to find (or maybe it's discussed in a quest that I've yet to experience since I'm a pretty low level) is anything regarding an afterlife or the concept of a soul.  There is a lot of info on this forum hidden behind spoiler walls that I might just have to examine but my quick glance didn't find anything.  I know the Nymeia governs fate and Nald'thal governs life and death but I've found little concerning the underworld and anything dealing with it. There are two stances you can view this from. There is the religious side of it and then there is the "scientific" side of it. From a religious standpoint, when a person dies, they are sent to the realm of Thal. According to the thaumaturges guild, a person's standing in life is what determines their standing in the afterlife. A person can also be sent to one of the seven hells, but this depends on their actions in life. Someone who kills without remorse, be it man or beast, can be sent to one of the hells and there have been instances that the lord of that hell may send back the person as a voidsent creature as punishment. The only name we know of the Seven Hells is the Black Warden, lord of the seventh hell. From the standpoint of "science", when a person dies, their body breaks down into the most basic form of matter - aether. This is returned to the planet's lifestream. Their soul is separated in the process and it's likely that the soul is what's sent to the realm of Thal or the one of the Seven Hells. Since the body is broken down and returned to the planet, it is essentially recycled and used to create other things made of aether. There are instances where the some of the aether from a body which has broken down may linger in our realm. In these cases, the aether can solidify with other aether and form aetheryte crystals or a strong aetherial presence. When we fall in battle and don't die, we are returned to whatever aetheryte crystal we're most attuned with. This is your home point crystal. It's not explained whether or not this is a conscious choice or if the lifestream simply pulls you back to your home point in times of serious injuries, but it can be speculated that it isn't truly an automatic process - otherwise we'd have far less dead NPCs in the world. As for raise, the game mechanics explain you are raising someone from incapacitation, not specifically from death itself. This is just my thought, but I'm of the opinion that raise is used on someone who's soul and body have yet to separate from one another upon "death" and their body has not broken down into aether and returned to the lifestream. Necromancy exists in the world, which leads me to believe that the zombies we see are devoid of their souls and are merely the bodies of their former hosts, acting more or less as shells for the dark magic that brought them back. Again, just my thought on the matter. Since we don't have any solid info concerning raise yet, I'm sure you'll find out more come ARR next week. RE: Eorzean lore and facts - Brave - 08-21-2013 This has been super informative!  Thanks so much! So even the "science" aspect of it has a bit of "mysticism" to it.  I'm a big fan of Lifestream nonsense so this seems like a big plus. |
