Flying mounts are locked behind each individual zone. They are called 'Wind Currents' and you have to collect the set for the zone to allow flying travel. They can be unlocked through exploration, questing and main story.
Unlocking flying unlocks more side quests inside each zone.
Monsters are being raised in difficulty compared to ARR. Yoshi-P estimates that two monsters can kill players very easy. They will also be more sensitive to movement. He cautions against charging through on your chocobo as you'll get heavied and killed fast.
He recommends working as a group, especially when approaching Beast Tribes.

Second, Final Fantasy XIV: Prepare to Die Edition;
Third, reminds me so much of Skyrim that I half-expect "Dragoonborn" to be a thing.

Bah. If Fat Chocobo can fly, I'm stealing some Palm leaves from Costa Del Sol and strapping them to my arms. Gonna be the Flying Bard.
Also... still think the whole, "You have lost the blessing of light" thing is pretty stupid. But then. I want Midgardsormr to shut his arrogant dragon hole, which I understand is also an unpopular opinion. Dear Dragon, my friends and I kicked your scaly arse, and we can do it every single day for Poetics. Show some respect to your betters, lizard.
I just hope that they don't confuse "Challenge" with "artificial difficulty."
But I still I wanna see a griffin, darn it!

If I have to trade the Blessing of Light and get a protagonist who is smarter, less trusting of obvious villains, and won't take so much guff from every NPC EVER... then yes, let's never have the Blessing of Light again.
I'm already mentally steeling myself for all the disdain, douchery, arrogance and unearned snobbery that you KNOW we're going to get from the Ishgardians when we go in. In my head, I am already regretting beating Steps for people you KNOW ain't gonna appreciate you the second you walk in their perfectly-intact, dragon free gates.
I guess my impatience with the MSQ is showing, isn't it?
