RE: Don't be scared! - Nova - 06-17-2013 Oooh I am glad to see a thread like this. I RP-ed heavily in SWTOR till my guild left the game but the RPs I kind of got thrown into forcefully. Lol I am excited to see such a strong RPs community but at the same time it really is intimidating especially since I am still trying to learn the lore and figure out where my character can fit in. *digs toe into the ground* Thank you for posting this thread I always have such a hard time joining into new communities. *flees back into corner* RE: Don't be scared! - Varus - 06-17-2013 Great OP! For all the newcomers! I am willing and happy to RP with any of you! I especially love theory crafting for ideas and concepts related to RP! If anyone just wants to try an IC conversation/RP trial session with a character concept you are thinking of, feel free to send me a PM and we can arrange something on this board or over Skype! RE: Don't be scared! - GuruNation - 06-17-2013 It is good to see that we can all come together as a community. I hope neither of us ever feel timid to be apart of it; whenever I join these types of things I want to leave a footprint. And there comes many a time where I don't get that opportunity, if anyone ever does need any assistance I think all of us will be happy to help. Alone we're strong, but together we're even stronger. RE: Don't be scared! - Grike - 06-17-2013 Well since everyone seems to be responding to this so well why don't we set something up? Maybe have a meet and greet in the beta or on skype for those not in the beta. We could set something up for our characters: give them all a reason to be there or something. Then we roleplay, get to know each other and maybe make groups for when the game opens. Not a guild, just open rp. Though it would also be a chance for recruiters of guilds to poke there noses in and offer invitations. Anyway it's up to you guys. If you think it's a good idea then we'll select a server and a place. If some people have to change servers then it won't be a big deal to remake your character because we'll just be rping - no quests or anything. Classes will change but we'll just ignore that. If you say your a gladiator than your a gladiator, even though you had to make a lancer so you could be in Gridania. Or whatever. So what do you think? Or we could rp now. Or I could just babble on about lore for hours and hours leaving you to wonder just when and how I lost my social life. It's up to you! I still haven't really RPed much with anyone. Nothing super heavy, I guess? I'm still really looking forward to doing it in-game, but kind of terrified at the same time.Don't worry man, I'm the same way. Especially with Eva - that girl is scary. I mean have you read her stuff? Holy crap. Stop intimating me with your awesomeness, damn it! And that goes for the rest of you too! *glares* But no worries! I've read your posts and I'm sure you'll be great to rp with! Don't be afraid to look me up! Or just message and we can do something on Skype...though I'm still trying to figure that out. I'm pretty incompetent with a computer when it involves anything beyond video games. Steam? No problem. Facebook? God help us all. Ooh just read your wiki page. I really like it. Your character is interesting! Tis a poor mind that that cannot think of more than one way to spell a word. ![]() RE: Don't be scared! - Varus - 06-18-2013 I think the suggestion on meeting on Skype might be the best option ATM, since beta time is intermittent, at best. There's also the problem that not everyone will be able to access the beta until phase 4. In anycase, I'm Epikphailz on Skype, if you all decide to go that route! I've never used skype but I'm willing to give it a try. Still not sure what or how I would do it though. I've never done anything like this. Any suggestions? Where someone posts something, then other people post reactions. Unlike forum RP (another type of Play by Post or PbP), IM RPs are faster, less detailed, and focus more on dialogue and character interaction than describing settings and emotions. Thus, replies tend to be shorter, instead of the paragraph posts you might see in a forum RP. This makes IM RP a great way to test out a character personality - throwing darts at the metaphorical wall until something you like sticks.(06-18-2013, 12:42 AM)Tyonis Wrote: I think the suggestion on meeting on Skype might be the best option ATM, since beta time is intermittent, at best. A good way to start would be to come up with a general setting first, and let your characters fit into the setting. If you want, I can help set up the group. Xenedra also has experience in this, so you can ask her for advice as well. RE: Don't be scared! - Grike - 06-18-2013 (06-18-2013, 12:52 AM)Tyonis Wrote:I do want! Holy crap. Stop intimating me with your awesomeness, damn it! ![]() I've heard this (or some variant of it) now quite a few times! It bugs me sometimes that I might miss out on making new friends because of this. I like newer RPers and love hearing all of the ideas they bring to the table. All I can say is please please please please don't feel intimidated by me or anyone else here!!! I do a lot of writing both for work and play, but there was a time in a little MUD called GemStone III (now GemStone IV apparently) that I like to think was not that long ago (>.>) where I was the newbie and my jaw sat perched on the floor in awe at witnessing some of the amazing interactions and stories that other characters there had woven together. All I can really say is stick with it, don't be afraid to ask questions or to explore your own writing, or art, or whatever you aspire towards. And try not to compare yourself to others too much. Instead, strive to create a unique and wonderful character and then be that character and own everything about him or her. The rest will eventually come naturally! It's often those first few steps that are the hardest. Or as an extremely wise woman once said to me, "90% of life is just showing up." ![]() |
