RE: Balmung or Gilgamesh? - Black - 07-04-2013

I am gonna go Balmung at the start and see where I go from there. I'll probably dip a toe or so over at Gilgamesh and maybe Behemoth. Also, I am a bit curious to try out a Japanese server, but I am not too fluent in Japanese and expect some hard times and perhaps me running/screaming from the server. I sorta have my eye on Masamune.

Although, I do notice some folks with Japanese-names and typing Japanese on Balmung (and probably elsewhere). I just have a feeling they are just as curious as I am. Or maybe they are not Japanese and are just using the font/names: Doesn't matter! I be going exploring!

Most are probably old players. They were quite a few Japanese players in Besaid.

All I can say is that for those considering Gilgamesh we definitely need more to help with building the roleplay foundation of the community. It won't be easy, we are considered to be the secondary server choice but I think it can be done and we can really watch the server grow and turn into something great. Proactivity will be the name of the day for Gilgamesh, and we would love to have anyone who is interested in helping the server grow really help provide a solid foundation!

Balmung, Never really thought of anything else. Don't really feel the problem that some seem to have with it being a legacy server so. Yea.

Best of luck to those who decide/decided on Gilgamesh.

Been here since February I think. Plan for me and my friends has always been Balmung. It's just a question of rather or not SE cooperates.

Well, there wouldn't even be a need for this discussion if SE would just *set* a server as an RP server... >.>

Well, then they'd have to make a Legacy and non Legacy RP server to make people happy and we'd still be in this position.

I have a legacy account, but I barely played the game in 1.0 and certainly didn't RP at all. I only paid for legacy so I could have my name in the credits and a discount on the sub.
Rakka'li will be a fresh new character on Balmung.

Not gonna lie, this whole thing is making me sick.

SE should drop the "non-legacy" idea entirely. It's not like there's going to be any shortage of new players to fill in every server, and it's not even like every legacy player is a level 50 carting around millions of gil.

If they're really that concerned about the economy or somesuch they can just cut everyone's current gil by 90% or whatever value would make people happiest, but splitting the community like this is... frankly, sickening. It shouldn't be happening.

Not just here, mind you, but across the entire community there's talk of people splitting up and going one way or the other, and that should never happen. There are so many games out there that never do an economy reset or open new servers, so why is it such a big deal here? It's incredibly frustrating.

I feel like this whole "legacy vs. non-legacy" junk is going to do a lot more harm than good.

RE: Balmung or Gilgamesh? - Kyatai - 07-04-2013

I'm looking at Balmung, but you already know that Xerek. ;-)

For me, having an established RP community is not intimidating as much as exciting. I am -very- tired of trying to start from square one and trying to find RP. Been there, done that... I just want to find like-minded creative folks and have fun RPing, adventuring IC and making epic stories that make me EXCITED to log in to the game, and sad when I must log off or go to work.
Now, will I get wrapped up in said RP? I dunno... I hope so, but in the end, it all depends on how my character resonates with everyone else's. Might not work out... might. Either way, I want to give it a shot.

That said... I am NOT in any way suggesting that the RPers of Gilgamesh would not be entirely capable of creating RP that would make me feel this way. It is entirely possible that they would. But what I -am- saying is... well... I miss RP. And if I can hedge my bets on encountering it in its most mature (aka established), developed, articulate, lore-enriched form, I'm going to take it.
No slam on Gilgamesh RPers. But if most are admittedly new to the game and so on, then... well logically they would have less lore & game knowledge.
And I *nom* on lore like a kitty does catnip.

But my overall preference would be a dedicated RP server for everyone... just put us all together and make RP magic. *shrug*

They are doing this.

As a 1.0 who's "legacy" character is level 3 and broke...

Agreed. I'm gonna be playing on a legacy server because that's where the community is based and because I want the option to see whatever differences are there for legacy characters in NPC reactions.

In 3-4 months max I'd think the economies will have balanced out anyway. In 6 or so   legacy players will be allowed to transfer to non-legacy servers at which point if the economies haven't balanced out, those who want to take advantage of their maxed out cash will be able to transfer and unbalance the rest of the server economies. Again, same situation.

Personally, I wish they had just given the option to port over level 1 versions of your character with some sort of game non-effecting bennies (tattoos, NPC reactions, some extra quest line with special cosmetic gear...) and kept it that way. *shrug*

But, that's not the decision reached. So here we are.

Personally I'll be on Balmung but I do wish those on Gilgamesh the best of luck!

Also to point out to all, I am also an effectively low-levelled, poor Legacy character who has no ties and no previous RP with anyone on this site or Beta Forums in regards to this game.

Even so, I plan to be on Balmung.

I may alt on Gilgamesh, as well, sooner or later. We'll see.

I got my own character's take on his history. I didn't care if I got my name in the credits: I just wanted to support S-E because they've shown such character during this reboot...and the discount and Chocobo doesn't hurt (Well, I haven't seen it yet, not having a whistle, but hopefully it is waiting for me...)

So, even if I am coming in "cold" into an already established Balmung (whose players have asked for new blood, as any RPer would), I don't foresee any difficulties, either clique or Economy-wise or even personal-character-story-wise.
