RE: How Much "Action/adventure" Do You Get? - Marisa - 03-30-2015

I get next to no adventure, and zero action, unfortunately. Now, the action I can live without. I used to do a bit of it, but I've yet to find any groups that can make it engaging. And that's understandable. It's hard to type and move at the same time, so any combat ends up being wholly underwhelming for me.

I do wish I could get more adventure, though. It's kinda tough, because me and Mishka haven't really fallen into any rp groups yet. Even our FC we're only loosely associated with, and not actively involved in any of their story arcs. We go out and do a lot of exploring, but most people stay in their primary RP hubs, and those who do venture out tend to be hard to engage with because they're already involved with something important.

I realize we just need to get more confident in approaching groups, but it's hard not to feel like you're intruding. But hey, if y'all ever see two little Miqo'te hopping along the landscape, feel free to drag us into your adventure. 9 out of 10 times we've got nothing better to do.

I'm setting up a little adventure in a few days outside Dragonhead. Sort of a relic artifact hunt. Erik's going as is Clio, not much action in this one, but adventure to be sure. Interested in going?

Hopefully I'm not working that night, I'd most certainly like to get involved.

RE: How Much "Action/adventure" Do You Get? - Gabineaux - 03-30-2015

Probably not enough but it's my own fault for not branching out and trying to gather people up. Sometimes I do make my own little RP events but I miss when Stefan would round us up and DM something neat. I don't usually DM, I'm lame and I just RP walk across the world.

RE: How Much "Action/adventure" Do You Get? - Imo - 03-30-2015

Not as much as I'd want, which is a pity. The recent Syldra's Revenge event with killing two Primals was pretty great, and I wish I could participate in more stuff like that.

Maybe I should run an event of my own. Or coordinate one with my FC.

RE: How Much "Action/adventure" Do You Get? - Kellach Woods - 03-30-2015

Anyhoo, I don't want to make hopes rise up but I might do an IC version of Wanderers' Palace HM.

It depends on how Kell's "personal" story (or rather Stuff I Randomly Came Up With While RPing With Eamont That One Time) develops. Story would be pretty much "help out the non-violent tonberries."

No date given because I dunno if it'll happen or when, but yeah.

RE: How Much "Action/adventure" Do You Get? - Gegenji - 03-30-2015

For a character who wants to be a hero and protect people, Chachan actually sees fairly little action. Other than the weekly Grindstone to test his skills and learn how to fight against all sorts of people, he really doesn't do much in the way of adventure. Recently, for example, he hasn't done much in the way of action beyond a one-shot thing against a Berserker. I have plans for something later down the line that is rather action-y (and he's hopefully participating in two plots that will be a bit more exciting), but that more or less shows how much adventure Chachan really has.

Am I upset by that? Not really. I just like doing RP in general - interacting with other players and telling a story. Whether it's whilst fending off cultists or over a cup of tea, I enjoy both. Nothing wrong with wanting your character to go out and be doing exciting things often, of course, but I like the whole "slice of life" angles just as much.

RE: How Much "Action/adventure" Do You Get? - Warren Castille - 03-30-2015

I believe Warren's been in three fights to date, not counting his long string of Grindstone losses or my forum stuff here. Action/adventure is fun, but character development and social interactions trumps them for me. Not to say that there can't be growth or development as a result of combat encounters, though. I just find myself being more interested in the slice of life stuff.

I suppose I could mention that there's a difference between my forum RP and my "live" stuff in game. I've done a fair bit of action/adventure stuff in my threads here but always tried to have them be the catalyst for the more interesting fallout that comes from the event. My in-game roleplay is usually the more "hang out and talk" variety, though as mentioned he's gotten into a few scuffles.

It's like pro wrestling: The actual wrestling part is only a small portion of the overall storytelling process, and there's a reason that the Raw after Wrestlemania is sometimes considered a better show than Wrestlemania itself. /wrestlingmark

RE: How Much "Action/adventure" Do You Get? - Sophia_Grave - 03-30-2015

It might be because my character is naturally antagonistic next to most PCs, but I find that I get a lot of conflict/combat; sometimes too much. Not much adventure though, but that's alright; Sophia is no adventurer.

Oh I get plenty in my FC. Most of our RP is based around work so we tend to have action and adventure at least once a week. Escort missions, espionage, daring heists, exploring old ruins; we've done it all. Of course jobs sometimes go awry so there's also a hefty helping of combat for anyone looking to sate their bloodlust. I'm pretty satisfied! Big Grin

IC: We got orders that an informant in a Garlean encampment had left for us a data crystal with important intel on it. To insure his cover he could not leave the encampment so he hid it in an out of the way place in the encampment. Are mission was to slip in and get the crystal and get out.

OOC: First we chose a suitable Garlean base that fit the level needs of all involved. We then approached it. First objective is our two ninjas were to scout the base and fine/pick 3 points where it could be. These points each had to have a few soldiers. The team moves to each spot and clears the npcs. After the third spot "Our cover is blown" and per our second objective, we had to engage two Vangaurd. Now that we are known, we spot the crystal, our final objective is to clear all enemies in the base, racing the respawn clock as a "win" requires a clear field.

It's really nice that we can have these little events as the gang is really open to leaving and seeing the outer world. This is our only scheduled event but we go out on the fly too a bit as time allows, and we all have our own things going. As for the weekly thing I'll note it helps what we do. At the end of the mission we do like a story stick and pass on the lead. The one above was mine, I ran it. When it was over we gathered for a debriefing. In "viewing the data", we found a member's name, Vanya. This in effect passes the stick to her and she will plan the next mission and set the objectives for "winning". At the end of that one she will say or do something to include another member, who will then lead the next one. Its so every one gets a say and a time to shine.

I really need to find a way to work out time to actually try and attend these events. *sigh* I probably a good thing though since Kestlona is still a couple of level from hitting 30 yet.  Still sounded like it was a fun event.

By the way, Erik, when are you going to Dragonhead for the artifact hunt.  Kest my join you guys to meet "Alex" for added training and also get his notes for the Dravian language that she's wanting to get started on.

RE: How Much "Action/adventure" Do You Get? - cuideag - 03-30-2015

Neither of my babies are really adventurers so that they don't get thrown into the mix that often is likely a source of relief for both of them. Jajara is happiest when she isn't getting knocked around by big scary things. Delial would be the more competent of the two I assume as well as the more helpful, since she can kind of heal? And I did have some plans for IC dungeons with her that have not quite rolled around.

... IC dungeons really are pretty fun, though! Kind of would like for that to be more of a thing. If only dungeon timers weren't a thing!!

I can definitely agree with that. The IC Wanderer's Palace run had to be rushed a bit at the end due to us stopping to "talk" with the Tonberries and whatnot. Blush
