-If you do it, your characters' efforts to fix the problem should not be the focus. Give that to the players who choose to join. Presume you're going to be spending more time managing the idea than getting to RP. If you insist on being the character who fixes everything, ask yourself why.

-Reed is 100% correct. People will escalate the event and do stuff like grope the body the participants find themselves in. It's an expected component of this kind of story (the old joke about the character finding him/herself in a new body and checking their junk to confirm the truth of it, to their horror and our amusement). You will need to establish OOC boundaries on what is and isn't acceptable behavior or somebody is going to get upset.

-Set an upper limit on how many people you want to join, and get assistance from other people whose chief interest is in managing the plot. If you have limited experience managing a plot, you will quickly find it escalates beyond your ability to run it alone if you don't.

Dude I plan to put OOC rules in the OP of the RP thread, be it within spoiler tags or not. The device that switches will be small, like an orb, and stuff like that can be very hard to find in a place like Ul'dah, so it could take a while. There will be a limit to what can happen in terms of content, like there might be groping if only to see if what just happened is true, but if they are not comfortable with it I will add that to the restrictions as well. As for upper limit, I don't know what number of people should it be.

RE: Body-Switching! - Faye - 04-09-2015

Can I propose something looping back to Fantasia? For April Fool's Day, my FC did a fun little RP event where those of us interested Fantasia'd our character's because they were ICly "cursed" and had to find a way to break it. If you want to avoid all the trouble with role-players concerned about their character's bodies being groped or misused, I think that could be a decent alternative for some light-hearted RP centered around waking up in another body. The basic idea is still there, minus the creepy factor.

RE: Body-Switching! - Aaron - 04-09-2015

I pictured Natsuru from Kampfer while looking at this thread.

I wouldn't particularly mind because both OOC and IC I don't find groping in my nature if by some chance I did wound up in a hot woman's body. It's basically touching yourself (Lord please never put me in Rosie O'Donnell body k thanks)

Id probably refuse to use the bathroom or shower though. Because boobs.

Where did the device come from, who put it there, who made the device, why would somebody leave that kind of device lying around, and if it wasn't just lying around, what's the agenda of the person leaving it there, such that it serves their interests to have random people switch bodies?

Start with an upper limit of ten.

But that still doesn't change the fact that aside from your well written suggestions afterwards should apply to the previous poster's attitudes. It's a violation of the first rule regardless. What Gharen did was wrong.

Previous poster attitudes are informed by the tiredness of the plot and the obvious ease with which the plot could lead into some shady business. Previous poster attitudes are being excellent in trying to kibosh the problem before it comes to light. I commend the previous poster for being excellent.

I am pretty sure this isn't called "We choose our roleplayers selectively and weed out people who think differently from us." - Because this community is made for people to show civil manners and show friendly tones and try to work it out between players if they have some kind of issues. If you think that kind of attitude is being excellent, then you obviously are just being a sadistic troll and is not really doing any favor for the OP to improve his ideas of events.

RE: Body-Switching! - Cato - 04-09-2015

Let's leave the actual moderation to the actual moderators, eh?

As an aside, it's really getting tiresome to jump into a thread and see people arguing over whether or not somebody should even comment in the first place. The tone policing is also pretty stale as well.

As for the event itself? I tend to favour such things being limited to OOC 'what if' situations rather than anything super serious on an IC level. More often than not, however, this sort of thing just ends up revolving around people not so subtly making a big deal out of having the opposite gender's...uh...'bits' and basing most of their interaction around that.

Hence the wariness, I'd imagine.

RE: Body-Switching! - Gharen - 04-09-2015

There was no hostility involved, and I'm fairly certain I'm allowed warn folks that they're about to walk into a building scheduled for demolition. But that's just me channeling Carnac.

Futurama was great, with great comedy. Which followed a script and predefined rules so that it was fit for television. With some of the personalities that we have here? Someone will do something stupid, feelings will get hurt, people will get angry, and so on and so forth.

Do with it what you will.

The potential issues have been listed. Other people have recognized them as valid issues, and even the OP has acknowledged that these issues can be a problem and, to his credit, is placing guidelines in his plot to help mitigate them.

Are you sure you're defending him the way you think you are?

Ok but you got to factor in the fact that it costs RL money for a Fantasia, and some of us might not have enough money to get one or two.

Aaron you are helping me. Groping in this case is still touching yourself. Even though you are in someone else's body, technically it can still count as your own at the moment until you get back in your own body.

Ok well the device would be an magical orb left behind by an ancient civilization (probably Allagans), and it would have been buried underground until it was dug up by accident.

RE: Body-Switching! - Aaron - 04-09-2015

I don't think the question the OP had or whatever he was trying to ask was so serious that it had to derail into a underground battle of political correctness for commenting.

Then again, it's hard to read tones over the net so it's probably not as serious as it sounds.

Break it halfway through the plot.

Maybe I misread or was just presumptuous; I thought this was gonna be a forum role-play since body-switching would be kind of odd to do in-game since it can't really be portrayed without Fantasias, either. Either way, if it was just going to be an imagined change anyway, Fantasias wouldn't actually be necessary regardless.

And? What would happen?

On another note, I freaking hate that a single topic did indeed derail SO MUCH. I was just pitching a concept, and it became a freaking battle here.

It IS forum RP. This would not be done in-game; it would be done in the Town Square and it would be like an open thread.
