The severity varies. Let's be honest - we've all had a good rant to a friend/relative/lover about something someone has done even if it isn't entirely their fault. It's natural. It happens. What's important is making sure it doesn't become a public spectacle or is done without due cause. Also, libel and slander are civil matters and not usually overseen by actual law enforcement, in most cases. The response given from Tumblr here is a bit nuts. The wronged party says what slander and/or libel is, not the forum in which it was done. Further, not taking steps to remove libelous content can leave one pretty darn exposed in a legal sense. Though I am sure they have some sort of blanket CYA loop hole to jump though. Ah yes, thank you, libel is the correct term. I'm also not the best on law terms, outside of the creative portions. (And even that I'm still learning). It's 4am where I am, or was when I posted that. But Tumblr did say that they weren't responsible for what their users posted and that they can't really say whether something is or is not libel or slander for that matter. I can see if I can dig up the email from them, but I may have thrown it away in frustration. But as you said, Tumblr isn't known for mmm... Handling certain things appropriately. Ultimately I decided to leave it be, it's an unfortunate thing. But I really would like people to consider what they post, and that it might hurt someone. I'm not talking about like constructive criticism. I'm meaning insults and bs like this article I read about a mother and daughter collaborating on a piece and so many hateful comments toward the mother. Yeah we can ignore it, I usually do but I do wonder if things have gotten to be... Too much in some ways. Anyway I'm rambling and getting off topic so I do apologize. ^^; I'll leave things at this. RE: If you can't be nice to people outside the RPC, you don't belong on the RPC. - Askier - 05-13-2015 Wait a sec. So some of you are bashing people who go onto a public website and anonimiously excercise their freedom of speech by bashing a person or abstract group of people by also going to a public website and anonimiously exercising your freedom of speech by bashing an abstract group of people? RE: If you can't be nice to people outside the RPC, you don't belong on the RPC. - Aduu Avagnar - 05-13-2015 I've not noticed it really, some agravated stuff, but not bitching and moaning... That being said, the only FFXIV related stuff I get is from people I follow, so unless they reblog it, I don't see it. And anyone who follows me knows what a clusterfuck of different stuff my blog is... For the most part they are right, until someone does. Then sit back and watch the nutbar fun happen. It is a mistake not usually repeated. ;p RE: If you can't be nice to people outside the RPC, you don't belong on the RPC. - Cato - 05-13-2015 'Freedom of speech' doesn't shield someone from being looked down upon for what they choose to do with their online time. 'Freedom of speech' also differs significantly depending on which country someone happens to live in. There is hardly any "bashing" going on here, especially because the "freedom of speech" that is being condemned here often results in the harassment of other individuals. No names are being mentioned here, and therefore, no harassment will come as a result. I believe that they are only bashing those who promote the bullying and harassment of others based on their assumption, while on the end of OP's perspective, he is simply critiquing a group of people who engage on this. He is not asking others to harass a group. He is not asking others to harass an individual. In fact, no names were ever given in this thread. I would like to add that sometimes these "witchunts" are done against people who don't deserve it by the tumblr army of justice warriors. These "warriors" often don't know the situation in its entirety and have a tendency to blow things out of proportion to make the problems even bigger than they really are, only to turn more people against a particular person. There's a thing in this community about taking things out of context and bending them to make them look terrible for another party. Just something related to this, not targeted at you. But I really do not think anyone can ever deserve to be witch-hunted, no matter what they did and how proven it is. The person being pointed at by people in a lynchmob formation wont learn anything of the situation, instead they might just grow to despise people and continue their behavior in an "up yours" reaction. I know it isn't nearly as serious in an RP community, but I recently read an article (which I can't find atm.) about a girl who committed suicide, after she had bullied another kid to commit suicide and been exposed to the internet. No one is doing anyone a favour by hunting someone else wild, just because someone has done something bad does not give you the right to do bad against them. You're all great people. Don't let someone disapproving of you drag you down to a kinder-garden level of behavior. *puts 2 gil in a cup and rolls off* RE: If you can't be nice to people outside the RPC, you don't belong on the RPC. - Kage - 05-13-2015 Let's not get into the horrific misuses of the phrase 'freedom of speech'. All I'm going to say is that tumblr is what you make of it. If you follow and surround yourself with shit, you're gonna get shit. If somebody is so outraged with how you spend your free time, just take the win for not living in such a tiny, closed-off world. They're miserable people and should be pitied.[/size] RE: If you can't be nice to people outside the RPC, you don't belong on the RPC. - Alothia - 05-13-2015 Just a note that we're watching this thread closely. Just note that if your emotions are getting the better of you as you read this thread, it's probably not a good idea to post. Keep it civil, let's not resort to name calling, and we should be fine. Exactly. Exercising a freedom comes with consequences. Having the ability to say what you want does not shield you from being judged by anyone no matter what you have chosen to say. This is true of any action you take as an individual. Yar.
