Ladies, just take your man's shirt.. and you have the desired effect.

The coliseum shawl covers my nipples (or the place they should be), does that count as a shirt?

RE: Pls put a shirt on - Nadine Marteau - 05-31-2015

You can argue that yes, going shirtless in the middle of the desert is a bad idea. But Ul'dah itself is probably not oppressively hot and there seems to be plenty of water, given how a bunch can be spared on a fountain in the Gold Court. Most of Ul'dah seems to have plenty of shade already if not indoors. So, really, there's no reason people can't go shirtless if they want to.

Personally, I feel policing people's attire in general is dumb when the elements aren't overwhelmingly a factor. Wearing a bikini in Coerthas is a breach of immersion. Something like this is decidedly more subjective.

Fact about being in a desert.
The temperature retches 50°C (about 122 Fahrenheit (I think)) during day and it falls below 0 during nights. This "argument" that its to hot to wear clothes during day is a weak one here, you need the clothes to protect your skin from the sun so it wont burn and to keep you warm when night falls.

I imagine that the same rules implies in Thanalan, this case Ul'dah. Look at the NPC, most of them fully clothed. Except some in the poor aria and three dancers. You can argue that the old Egyptians hand less clothes, but that design with no tops belonged to rich people and they uselessly stayed in the shadow or indoors.

I don't think anybody is seeking to 'police' anybody else's attire. The bulk of the comments within this thread can easily be read as being very tongue-in-cheek. Smile

So if dancers and entertainers don't wear much clothing for obvious reasons, impoverished people can't afford clothing, and rich people don't need much clothing... wouldn't that be a considerate chunk of the population not needing/having clothing...?

FEELS LIKE I'M WEARING NOTHING AT ALL

RE: Pls put a shirt on - Warren Castille - 05-31-2015

Indoors inside of Ul'dah =/= being exposed to the sand and sun of the Sagoli.

Please.
Towering would definitely follow Bryn around if she wore revealing clothing.

Because it helps larger people not overheat...

Because they're big...

...Point is that most people need to protect themselves if they are outside in the sun, or outside during night. Rich people in other hand can stay inside all day and more interested in fashion. That said, I have nothing against people being topless in doors (like Quicksand) I just wish it was less. *shrug* But that's just me.

RE: Pls put a shirt on - OttoVann - 05-31-2015

Honestly trying to argue that people shouldn't be shirtless because Ul'Dah is in a desert is a bit dumb. Who wants to be that much of a nitpicker? Who -wants- to be that much of a nitpicker?

Damn, I get it, sometimes you feel its hard to take people seriously sometimes in RP because of the clothes they wear, just say so and the majority of RPers will dodge you.

RE: Pls put a shirt on - Uther - 05-31-2015

I never go to the Quicksand. It gives me too many Club Caprice/ Prancing Pony/ Blue Recluse flashbacks where all RP in a gigantic world is confined to a single, stupid room.

I'm assuming from this conversation that there is an overwhelming abundance of shirtless Highlanders hanging out in this bar. That's a little strange to me but, to be fair, the Quicksand is technically a private establishment and if there isn't a "No shoes, no shirt, no service" sign out front, you can be bare chested all you want and not break immersion.

I just don't know why you would. I feel like there's enough cloth and leather in Eorzea to afford you to wear a shirt. Though... there is a distinct lack of farms to feed and clothe such a large population... so I'm not sure where it's coming from...

But I digress. I don't think I've ever gone bare chested with Uther. His pale Ishgardian body might catch fire under that Thanalan sun.

Then I'm not understanding the problem. Do what you want.
