Woot, I'm so happy buche de noel made it in game again haha. I've been meaning to make one IRL for a few winters now. This will give me the perfect opportunity. ^^

Re: To all RL Culinarians - Aveline - 07-26-2010

Yep, it's a traditional cake served up around Christmas in France and Belgium and a few other European places. I first had it at a French bakery in my city that treates pastries as SRS BUSINESS (tasty, buttery, serious business) and I've been wanting to try making it ever since.

Basically it's a giant Swiss roll with chocolate or mocha cream filling and frosted with chocolate (or more mocha cream) to make it look like a log, then topped with decorations like in the picture. Here's what a real world version looks like:

Re: To all RL Culinarians - Kashemia - 08-09-2010

I've had Buche de Noel a couple of times as well, it's a really nice Christmas treat... Maybe I should make one again this year, I haven't really done it for years...

When we get closer to Christmas, I'll add a recipe for Ris a la mande, that, while having a french name, is actially Danish. It's a tradition here in Denmark to eat it Christmas Eve. It's sort of a rice pudding with whipped cream and chopped up almonds, and you eat it with warm cherry sauce. Also, there's always 1 almond in it that isn't chopped up, and the one who gets it get a present ^^
