Hah! Sounds sufficiently foreign. IWOIJA.

RE: Your stout and loveable chocobo (or other mount) - Michikyou - 09-27-2013

Garuda.

My character Naih icly has a few chocobo chicks, and runs a small hatchery.

So far he has:
A black chick: Odin
Three yellow chicks: Shiva, Rumuh and Titan
Ride-able mount: Garuda

Ironbeak. I'm a fan of naming my characters and their potential pets/weapons something reasonably mature rather than gimmicky, especially if I intend to make use of them IC at some point. The name is very loosely inspired by the Highlander naming conventions - it's more of a title of honour for the beast's accomplishments in battle than a name.

Clover's is Cinnamon.
K'mih's... I was unsure, so K'nahli told me to call her chocobo Coco. I liked the idea.

Yeah, but for arguments sake, birds aren't dragons. Fafnir, Ryujin, and Gorynych are all cool names, but it feels 'claimed' by imagery of giant scaly bastards. Chocobos are rotund and fluffy. Also, there's plenty of equally bad-ass birds out there.

Like Ninkasi, goddess of beer, who is a giant fire breathing eagle, conceived from the mythological equivalent of the big bang. There's also Aquila, the aspect of lightning in Greek mythology. Altair is the Arabic name for Aquila's constellation, and the namesake of the more infamous Assassin's Creed character with a strong tie to the imagery of eagles. Alkgnost, a bird of eastern myth that flies out of hell during thunderstorms to eat souls of those stuck out in the rain. There's the Lovecraftian Shantak, a great and terrible scaly bird that commands the skies bordering the dream realm of the gods. Oh, and the Roc/Rohk, which was probably actually a real giant fucking death bird that could carry away small cattle.

And these are just a few of the ones with cool-ish sounding names that aren't already spoken for in universe, like Garuda and Phoenix. Just for your consideration. We all know dragons are immensely awesome. The insanely OP'd birds in mythology get so much less credit!

Really was just trying to be helpful, not pushy. I utterly lose my mind and everything comes to a grinding halt when I need to think of the perfect name, so if I saved you a headache by cracking out the old dictionary of mythology, I'm glad.

Yeah. I never did get my gold chocobo though :c This was all way back before you could just google that though, so maybe I was just doing it wrong. Those darn strategy guides are never right!

Yeah, I was joking around on the dragon part. I thought naming my chocobo would be easy but now it seems I must go in depth on my creativity. Hehe. Don't get me wrong, your advice is extremely helpful and it now has me looking at more "inspired" options. An example would be that most prehistoric flying reptile species are named after mythological birds which in this case, you have just informed, so maybe I can browse around at a species of flying reptile and find something. Hell, an idea can also sprout from looking at feathered dinosaurs - early species of raptors found in Ancient China for example...

EDIT: Wait a minute..... *facepalm*

I'm naming him "Raptor." There we go. Big Grin

Gollywobbler, because Kerr is a pirate.  Arr.

gol·ly·wob·bler
 [gol-ee-wob-ler]

noun Nautical .a very large quadrilateral staysail set between the foremast and mainmast of a schooner.

Dinner is completely IC. Jajara doesn't keep pets because she's worried she might end up eating them if she goes broke. A big chocobo is basically a banquet on legs, so... Dinner.

RE: Your stout and loveable chocobo (or other mount) - Desmond Aryll - 09-27-2013

I named Des' Choco, Bomeyhat.
I wanted something Ul'Dah-ish sounding. Googled the translation for "owl" in Arabic. Done and done. Wink One badass bird name produced.

Yeeeah, I went with Pecksalot. Don't stand in front of the chocobo, folks.

Hence my reference to naming a chocobo "Menchi."

In the anime/manga Excel Saga, the main character has a dog she names Menchi who desperately tries to escape the apartment whenever possible because of his status as.........the emergency food supply.

Wink

RE: Your stout and loveable chocobo (or other mount) - Val - 09-27-2013

Val, the character, doesn't have much respect for many things outside of what he enjoys. Therefore, he never really named his chocobo. He generally curses at it, calls it "Bird," threatens to eat it, and the like.

Ohhh I think I remember that. I didn't really 'get' Excel Saga I guess so I didn't watch too much of it.

Definitely named my Chocobo Nugget.  And one day, I'll get his brothers Ketchup and Honey Mustard.  They'll be magnificent together.

I personally really like what I did with this.

My Miqo'te's name is Y'raja, and raja means king in both Indian Sanskrit and Indonesian, I believe. I named her chocobo Takhta, which is Indonesian and/or Malaysian for throne. Big Grin

Meanwhile, Astrid's chocobo is simply named Parsnip... Because he's kind of the color of one, right? Lmao. XD

(And yes, my characters have ICly named their chocobos that!)

That's very cool actually. :O
