RE: Teleportation in Eorzea and RP - Fates Skein - 07-25-2014

I've spent some time talking to the NPCs around the aetheryte in Gridania, they have some interesting flavor text in regards to aetherytes, aether travel, all that kind of stuff.

For me personally, I tend to play it as my more atherially-aspected characters (my magic users) have more ease attuning to and using aetherytes whereas my more mundane characters tend more towards things like missed connections (landing in the wrong place), aether sickness, that kind of thing.  As I'm currently only playing adventurer types, all of them have enough aether to actually -use- the crystals, but I could definitely see someone being 'aether blind' being a possibility.

Re: teleportation as Deus ex Machina: I think that as with any combat related action, good communication is key in this.  Teleportation is a spell and spells can be interrupted (temporarily like a knock back or permanently where the spell is lost).  The element of chance needs to be a part of the scene when it comes to someone using teleport to get away.  If it's part of the story that the person -has- to get away (a recurring villain, for instance) then there should be some OOC communication there.
