RE: London Fanfest Premium Stream Information (second hand notes) - Aldotsk - 10-25-2014

I guess I'll have to wait for December to hear about gunner class. Sigh . Dark knight does not really excite me as everyone else ;-;.

But I wonder if samurais are going to be tank or dps...

RE: London Fanfest Premium Stream Information (second hand notes) - Erik Mynhier - 10-26-2014

So some are happy, and some are pissed that DRK is a TANK. I was reading the 10+ page flamestorm on the Official Forums about it and came upon this post....

Quote:I played ffxiv 1.0 back before jobs. I mained gla and crossed class a lot of thm skills, making a unique "drain tank" that was infinitely more fun than any other class combination or jobs I have played since.

I, for one, am super, super excited to have both a new tank role (which I have been wanting since 2011 when they forced me into pld) and DRK. The fact that they're one in the same, does not come as a surprise to me, or a disappointment.

Also, to anyone who doesn't understand this, this game has been taking every single one of the jobs from FFIV. The only ones not added are NIN, DRK, and ENG, which we are getting 2 of the 3 for sure now, in that order. DRK was a converse to Cecil's PLD in that game, so it makes perfect sense from that position. Not to mention from a balance position. Too much longer without a new tank or healer and too many new DPS would verily hurt this games player interest.

I've been saying this since that Titan Sprite Animation; muskateer will be ENG. It will be utility healing support.

and About the lack of base class. It will probably be an alternate job stone to Gladiator.

Now I feel stupid for not noticing this as FFIV is my favorite FF of all time, but he is right. Of all the classes in FFIV, Engineer is all that's left. So he/she may be on to something there. If its a healer to boot, like some odd mix of FFT's Machinist (originally called Engineer) and Chemist jobs, I know I would not be the only RW screaming. It could sort of be how Bard lacks a bit of power (only a tinny bit mind you) in exchange for having good support skills, Engineer could be a healing job, that has less healing power in exchange for a bit of DD or Support.

And the last part, I would hope so, that it would be an alternate GLD, but I just don't see it at this point.... would love to be wrong though.

RE: London Fanfest Premium Stream Information (second hand notes) - TheLastCandle - 10-26-2014

Mm, I really can't see DRK being an alternate job stone for GLA. They said in pretty certain terms "NO" base class for this job. It could very likely be the first of the "cross-jobs" Yoshi-P hinted at in the past. In this case, I guess that'd be an amalgam of WAR (or PLD) and BLM, but I think even this is unlikely. I just don't see them not requiring people to actually have to level any of the new jobs.

At this point, I think the bigger possibility is that they're revamping the Armoury system. On the other hand, this might be wishful thinking on my part; I firmly believe that this would be a good thing, allowing the devs more design freedom in regards to future job additions. Not to mention there is extremely little reason to use any of the base classes once their corresponding jobs are unlocked.

RE: London Fanfest Premium Stream Information (second hand notes) - Aldotsk - 10-26-2014

I have no qualms about DRK being a tank. Honestly, the game needs more tank classes and caster classes and healing classes. But the biggest issue I had was really the gunner class. But I think it'll be hinted during December so I don't mind.

RE: London Fanfest Premium Stream Information (second hand notes) - Jana - 10-26-2014

Now I wonder if it will be a Musketeer class using the guild in Limsa with an Engineer healing job and an Agent DPS job. I don't really know about Final Fantasy as a series so I'm just guessing based on the little I know and have read in here, though.

Flaws in "FFIV Jobs" theory:
  • Dark Knight was introduced in FFIII, not FFIV.
  • Ninja was introduced in FFI.
  • Both Scholars and Summoners were introduced in FFIII.
  • Warrior/Fighter was introduced in FFI.
  • Monk was introduced in FFI.
  • White Mage and Black Mage were introduced in FFI.
  • Dragoon was introduced in FFII.
  • Paladin was introduced in FFI.
  • Bard was introduced in FFIII.
Just because some of these jobs were used in FFIV, does not mean that FFXIV is emulating FFIV to a T. One could easily say the same about FFI or FFIII or FFV, even, using the same logic presented here. And last I checked, Engineers in FFIV used hammers and axes, not guns. In fact, there was no Gun weapon in FFIV; the closest they had were bows.

I have been playing these games since the original on the NES. I am not saying these jobs originated in 4, I am, through the poster on the OFs, I am saying he is correct that every job in 4 excepted Engineer has been added to this game. The only exception is WAR and SCH, which it could be said do appear in 4 as in the Scholars that help you half way through the game, and the warrior-esk dwarfs (La-HO). That with Y's comparison to Cecil in the past tell me FFIV was on his mind a bit. I didn't post that to say it was true or not, the part about Engineer was simply an interesting theory I thought I would share.

Also, DRK was introduced in 2.... not 3.

Leon was technically a Dark Knight, yes, but only when he was in service to the Emperor. It wasn't presented as a Job/Class, but as a plot point. I was listing when they became playable Jobs. And the first time is in FFIII, when they were called Magic Knights, before the english DS remake. http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Knight

I am not speaking of playable, just their appearance. And as I said I have been playing these games for a very long time and am aware of Mystic Knight, who are only linked to the Dark Knights becase Square was lazy and recycled the sprite for Cecil's DRK sprites. Interviews with early developers confirm this
as DRKs are separate from Mystic Knights (Swordsmen) as the original MK used White magic and all subsequent MK's used elemental enchantments. To say MK and DRK are the same based on developer laziness and with the presence of modern games even with the class (Bravery Default) is like saying DRK should use a scythe because they did in FFXI.

At that point (the emboldened text), you got Magic Knights confused with Mystic Knights. It's true that Magic Knights in FFIII used white magic, but then you went and mixed them up with Mystic Knights, who enchant their swords with elemental magic.

But enough of this babble, we're derailing the thread.
