Re: 18+ Age Restrictions - Len - 08-19-2010

Well it can be impossible to tell at times

My personality and habits haven't changed at all since from when I was young until now
So kids who are naturally mature or smart can pull off a 30 year old easily
Especially if you notice how easy it is to copy peoples habits or traits
Like families where everyone speaks loud naturally as habit picked up

Then again if I was still a kid now I would probably add 10 years and act respectably while having fun so this may be pointless.
As far as continents are concerned we have Asia Europe America and even Africa , maybe Antarctica too ..
Even isolated scientists in the antarctic might want to feel the joy of this game.

My rule would be no ERP and kids are fine with me , old people , young people
Aliens too unless they invading our planet or something like that
Anyways the methods required to weed out little children are tough

I played WoW for sometime and this is something I found funny
A few people I knew were totally out of age
18yr old told everyone his 32
27yr old said he was a she age 16
12yr old said his 27
51yr old said his 10 ( not sure how he can even play at that old age , but oh well )

Age is all relative to experience and natural maturity
If everyone matured at the same rate it would be good for scientists who like to organise all the logic

You can expect all the people you know online to be 10 years younger or older than they say or pretend to be
But since this an RP group of people my IC age should be all that matters , but who knows.

Harsh, man >.> 51 is far from old and decrepit. Hell, Bruce Willis is 55 now and I doubt anyone would ask him if he's capable of playing a video game. Not if they wanted to walk away from the conversation, anyways :p

Re: 18+ Age Restrictions - Asyria - 08-19-2010

I've been in a guild with a nice pair of old ladies aged 70+ and they did know how to play.

I had a 76 year old in my WoW raid group. Paladin. He played AMAZING!

Re: 18+ Age Restrictions - Shamadconde - 08-19-2010

Back in the day, when I was young, I was picking up my copy of FFVIII at Gamestop. There was an old granny who was doing the same thing and she told me she had played all the Final Fantasies. Age matters not.

I guess we could mandate everyone post a picture of themselves holding some sort of identification close enough to the camera for people to read the age.

Re: 18+ Age Restrictions - Shamadconde - 08-19-2010

That could be easily photoshopped. It would have to webcammed.

Re: 18+ Age Restrictions - Eva - 08-19-2010

Even webcammed there's about a thousand holes that can be poked into that glass such that it wouldn't hold water. Fake ID's and such just for starters. I mean, if a linkshell is hardcore enough about its rules to be going to such lengths to verify its members' ages... I dunno... Trust issues...?

I think it would be enough for most any linkshell to set the rule during the application process that the applicant must be 18+ (or 16+ or whatever the rule is for that particular group). If an angry parent comes along than the way I see it the linkshell community can't be held liable if they falsified their information. Just ban them from the group going forward if it's an issue.

Also I'm not sure I would want anyone knowing my RL name and address though, and that info is usually contained on most ID's. Maybe it's just me...

He'll launch a car at your ass at 55 years old.

Re: 18+ Age Restrictions - Richter - 08-20-2010

I must be an exception in regards to the 18+ rule, as my parents are ambivalent about what I do online in most cases. Because they don't consider RP guilds to be that much of an issue (then again, we are the type to go to medieval fairs, so we esteem getting in-character rather highly), and considering that I'm a fairly mature person already, I find it somewhat irritating that I couldn't, say, apply to join a guild such as T.A.L.E. (which I would love to join) or the Stormguard.

It can be a real nuisance, but I can also see the benefit of the safety net it provides against liability issues.

I think your response right there shows a lot of promise in the under 18 club. Just because there's that restriction doesn't mean we still can't roleplay together outside the guilds

My former roommates were in their late 40s (yeah, don't ask) and they were MMO fanatics. My boyfriend's parents are in their 50s and they're obsessed with Conan endgame.

Wow, you're me when I was 15 Tongue

Re: 18+ Age Restrictions - Con One - 08-20-2010

Uh oh. Sounds like we've got a time traveler. I need to go call Jean Claude Van Damme, somebody keep Armi and Richter from touching in the meantime. We'll make it through this, I promise.
