It's disappointing that some folks have a FYGM attitude, but not at all surprising. We live in the age of "I want it and I want it NOW."

In other words, we live in the age of Veruca Salt.

Edit: Aw, as I was typing this message, I 90k'd and have 3102 refusing to let me back in. Sad

Why someone actively playing the game gets booted- yet an afker can stay on all day and night...

I am -constantly- getting kicked from the game and unable to return.
Just an hour ago, I was kicked from the middle of the last boss fight in Coppermine.

This.

Did two dungeons today.  CONSTANTLY got DCed and 90k errors through both dungeons.  Talk about frustrating, yet some arse stays in one spot in Limsa for hours on end.  Meh.

You know if we logged off, you still wouldnt be able to create a new character right?... I mean you are aware they locked that functionality Day 2 of EA. before the mass kickings and login issues.

Character creation is locked so more people dont contribute to this situation.. not to ease it.

I personally have been trying to stay on the last day and a half due to this congestion.  Yes it's selfish of me, but I logged out this morning.  I just hope I can get back on tonight to continue to record and produce my content instead of sitting at a login screen with an idle channel and hungry subs...

Edit: and before anyone gets mad and points fingers, yes I was trying to produce content, HELPFUL content, for when people are able to play regularly. But you know, whatever. Get upset at me for a while but it doesn't change the fact that this sucks for everyone and sadly the biggest offenders of this are the end gamers who don't even come here.

The only thing that bites is the fact that I haven't been able to get in game for the past two days. Especially when you pre ordered it yet I understand they didn't expect the game to be that populated but still wish I never paid that extra money to get in early. Its wasted money you know? Hope they compensate those that couldn't logged like me at least and I have many friends trying to get in balmung only to get the response on the forums of "Don't pick the most populated server then stupid." By some users. Obviously there going to balmung for rolepay yet we are limited. All those waiting to even make a character I feel for you. My best suggestion is just to wait it out until they raise the server cap!

RE: Staying logged in to avoid queues? Don't. - Asyria - 08-29-2013

Agreed 100% with OP.

And the whole "don't pick the highest population server it's stupid" is a stupid statement, considering the issue has been happening on all servers. Silly users.

I really hope they compensate people for this... but knowing their track record with FF XIV 1.0, I think they will.

It looks like there's a lot more players deliberately staying online for extended periods of time judging by what I've seen over the last few days. In almost every settlement I've visited there's at least 10-20 players all sitting or standing around doing nothing...and then being there when I return hours later.

So this is definitely a much bigger issue than I initially assumed - there's literally hundreds of players on each server doing it and the time window to reliably log on has been reduced in size significantly. I'm not mad at Square Enix, though - I'm sure they're doing all they can to help remedy the situation and that they're equally as frustrated as those of us who cannot get online.

I wouldnt mind an AFK timer but it needs to be long enough to accomodate long dungeon queue times at high levels when the population thins out.

Someone told me that in FFXI, it was necessary to stay logged in as much as possible.  It may be that those players are old FFXI players and that's why they're staying logged in 100% of the time.

As long as you're moving around, a long dungeon queue shouldn't be an issue.  You need to stay close enough to your computer to take it anyway.

I just wish we could get an actual queue, instead of this "world is full" nonsense.

I've worked my ass off the past several days to get myself and Twinflame moved out of our apartment and ready for a three-day haul to Texas. I have this single day to recuperate before the drive, and I really want to play some ARR... but no can do. Blargh.

I didn't pay any more to preorder than I would have paid to order later. Are there really places that charge extra for that? That makes no sense.

I'm just glad that I'm able to play around with the character creation screen even if I can't get into the game itself. I'm now seriously contemplating starting fresh now that I've gotten to grips with the various game mechanics. Being able to save appearances is wonderful!

I really, really think that the lack of the queue makes things so much worse.

Well I don’t know about you, but I’ve discovered new and creative ways of pressing the ‘Start’ command on the main menu. My personal favourite is whilst I was shaving; I put my game pad beneath my toe and kept tapping the 3 button. It didn’t get me anywhere for sure, but it most certainly abolished the rumour of men not being able to multi-task.

I agree, wholeheartedly. I'd love to be able to get in queue, go do work for 30 minutes or an hour or however long, then come back and play.
