Hello,
My name is Ava! Let me begin by saying that I am SOOOOOO excited! I finally get this game on Thusday, so I should be on by either Thursday or Friday. I'm happy to finally be rid of WoW (I played for about two years), and its cruddy drama RP / lore r**e, etc. So yes, I'll be brand new to the game, though I should have joined back in March when the PS3 version was scheduled to come out. Oh well!
I was a heavy WoW RPers and I have been a heavy IM RPer since I was young. I'm happy for the opportunity to get to RP in the beautiful world or Eorzea, but I need help! I have no idea what server to play on, or where to find RP. So, after a bit of digging I found this website on http://www.ffxivorigin.com from another poster looking for RP help.
So, I was hoping to get a few questions answered:
1) Myself, my boyfriend and my best friend are all transferring over from WoW (because we're tired of the drama llama), but we want to get it right the first time. We're reading up on our lore, but I was put in charge of finding us a good RP server for us to join, so does anyone have any server suggestions?
2) How easy is FFXIV RP? Making your own emotes and such, interacting with other characters.
3) What are some good lore websites? I figure we'll be reading these while the game installs...
4) How well is RP accepted in the game? This is my biggest issue, because I know on WoW, even on an RP specific server, we got trolled daily. I want to try and avoid that if I can, but I know that it's not entirely possible.
Once again, we're really excited about the game. I want to make friends, I love learning about the lore and creating characters and I want to play with those who are equally as passionate. So please, if you have any suggestions or comments I would love to hear them.
Also, I'm really liking this website. I hope to come here often. Thank you everyone who read, and thank you once more to anyone who offers advice or even a hello!

I'll try to answer as pointedly and brief as possible since I'm on my way out the door in moment for work.

Besaid is the unofficial RP server.

It's possible to create your own custom emotes by simply typing in /em whatever. For instance, typing in: /em makes a silly face
Would come out with:
Castiel Mavanix makes a silly face.
You can also use the preexisting emotes and even just the motion such as: /laugh motion. This gives the animation of laughing without the text if that's what you want. Interacting with others isn't too bad. You'll see RP around you often most likely, though it's mostly concentrated within individual linkshells and events. Being a freelance Rper really won't get you too far as a result.

The RPC wiki has a lot of the lore documented (as well as character profiles and player-made literature). It's under the Lore tab at the top of this site. Pretty much everyone acknowledges that Besaid is the RP server. I've seen very few trolls myself, though I'm sure they still pop up from time to time. It's not bad at all though. The non-RPers are mostly used to us now and don't do anything to interfere for the most part. Sometimes the non-RPers will even jump into the RP if they see an opening and try their hand at it. The RP community itself is pretty solid. It's a primary reason Besaid is so populated and it's also a reason so many RPers haven't quit the game yet.
Please keep in mind that this game had a very premature launch and didn't get initial good reviews as a result. It's still free to play as a result and Square Enix is doing their best to fix it up before the PS3 launch, their second chance at getting it right. They've made great progress so far, but there's still a lot of work to go. The battle system is supposed to get a huge overhaul before Spring ends (this is the big update everyone is waiting for, though nobody knows for sure -when- exactly it's coming...just "in the Spring"). They're supposedly also going to fix some other key issues, such as the copy/pasted maps. Just keep all this in mind while playing ^^.

Welcome, Castiel answered pretty much all of your questions but I just wanted to say hi as well, since I'm also still new.
Where did you RP on WoW? I haven't in... Like probably two or three years now, but I was helping run a really big Troll RP guild on Moon Guard called Zandalari a while back.
