Having issues with a concept - Koureanna - 10-21-2015

I am having trouble trying to really polish up the concept for my character. Here is what i have right now.
He is a Xaela Au'Ra where i haven't really thought of the entire backstory of i was thinking something along the lines that he was orphaned in Ul'dah
He took up mining from a young age due to fascination with the earth and knowing that if you dont work you dont eat.
He has a very strong point of loyalty to those he considers friends and will do what he can.
Due to being part of the first failed reopening of the copperbell mines he choose to pick up an axe (due to the fact it isn't that much different then working with a pick) to learn to fight in order defend himself and others as he goes about mining and studying the geology in more dangerous places.
His biggest fascination is how the world works when it comes to the geology of the area and the complete infusion of aether in the soil.

Any advice good or bad would be nice, I am not quite sure how to polish his concept up with out actually rping but don't want to rp till i have a semi decent concept. I am trapped in my own inadequacies.

Sadly enough au ra weren't around on Eorzea before HW (With a select few who came with the Domans, but they kept themselves out of sight, knowing Eorzea is racist as fuck). So I fear your backstory is one who you really couldn't do if you want it to be lorewise correct, but in the end, its your subscription you're paying, and your character.

Hmm then maybe i can change something, no idea weather it would be easier to do race, or change somethings in the back story. I am trying to be as lore accurate as i can be just because that makes it better for the flow of things.

That's not entirely accurate, since the DRK shows us that there were Au Ra in Coerthas before. Granted, things sucked for them.

Race but the option if you want to be from Ul'dah, any other the other races will do fine.

I'm sure you could have Garleans treat your xaela like shit back in Othard though, if you really wanna go for the same sort of backstory + au ra Smile

Yeah but... that sort of included being executed, and generally not being treated nicely to say the least Tongue Might just have been Ishgard. In truth, I'm 100% sure if they weren't a playable race, they would be happily still executed for looking like dragon/voidspawns, and treated just as shitty as beasttribes ;_; but hey...

RE: Having issues with a concept - Koureanna - 10-21-2015

Hmm i didnt even think of the Garlean refugee angle, That would be a better reasoning for him to want to learn to fight rather then one event in copperbell mines.

Agreed on that one!

Also I forgot to answer the OP. Given that Yugiri went through some effort to conceal her appearance (granted it was more of a 'WE AIN'T DONE WITH THE MODEL YET' cop-out) in Ul'Dah, it wouldn't mesh well with a home grown one.

I don't really see anything wrong with a pre-heavensward Au Ra though I wouldn't play one myself...-- I mean, at LEAST some of the Kha tribe could have made contact, right? It's the visibility I'd be concerned with. Even if he was around, it's likely no one would have seen him for what he is. There are easy ways around this; glamours perhaps? A lot of folks went with that route...

OR. If he's an axeman you could have him be centered around Vylbrand? A crew member on an exploration vessel perhaps? Maybe they picked him up on a trip? Just shooting ideas here.

Nothing wrong with ideas they are what i need to make a working character concept. You guys have already made me think of many things that i didnt think of before.
