Doubles? - Faith Sauveterre - 06-22-2016

Just out of curiosity. Did any of you or have any of you thought of recreating your character on other servers if you can. One could be for pure roleplay so if you get in Gilgamesh or Balmung you can meet new people and just roleplay instead of doing the main story stuff and the other could be for playing the game content on some other server? I ask because I've lurked on this site and I have read that some people don't really do the main story as much and they like to roleplay more.

RE: Doubles? - Virella - 06-23-2016

Nope. Can't do it. I can't even make 2.0 versions of old RP characters, doesn't feel right. So nope, I can't! But I've seen people doing it, and enjoying it greatly.

RE: Doubles? - Fox - 06-23-2016

I've done it, but I've felt it's always a lot more work than I'm willing to put in. As I'd rather have access to my main character and focus on getting their classes completely 60. But for those who do have the time, it can be enjoyable.

RE: Doubles? - Sounsyy - 06-23-2016

I did this for several months actually. My main character, Sounsyy, was on Hyperion doing PVE content, endgame raid, crafting/gathering FC, etc but then I had an alt that I transferred to Balmung, named and fantasia'd to a copy of Sounsyy just for roleplay. As I said I did this for several months but, for me, it was rather unsatisfying on the RP front. I was mostly inclined to complete things on my main character and seemed to only log into Balmung occasionally or for event RPs.

I'm not very good with alts, and don't have a ton of time to dedicate to them, but even with both my characters on Balmung now I've noticed that I can set aside more time for each and get RP/PVE/whatever done more fluidly. So it can be done, and it can probably be done better than I was doing, but it's not easy. You'll end up favoring one character over the other usually, and in my case that was the PVE side.

RE: Doubles? - illust - 06-23-2016

I have two other Illust Days on two other servers, but they aren't exact copies of this Illust. I have one on Gilgamesh so I can run content/raid with friends, and then Illust on here for RP

RE: Doubles? - ExAtomos - 06-23-2016

I made a Val-clone on Hyperion some years back to hang out with Lodestone friends. Got to 50 and through 2.0 (aka endgame at the time). I wasn't keen on the culture of the server at 50 (as a newbie though, I've not met a nicer bunch of people. Of course, this may have changed in the past 2 years.) At the time, I did super-casual RP with friends with both versions of the character.

Personally, I would never separate gameplay from RP as I'd want all content/places available whenever I need it in my story arcs (don't want unnecessary restrictions). I tote all my alts through all msq.

eta: Not sure it matters, but I don't include the msq in my rp. Closest I'll get is "Oh really? Thus and such happened? Wow."

RE: Doubles? - Zephyo - 06-23-2016

I actually made a younger version of Rynathan, E'rynth, on Jenova to play with my brother since he couldn't jump onto Balmung at the time. I seriously neglected him, though, since it was a pure PvE affair and I tend to be a lowbie that prefers RP. Not to mention my internet at the time was attrocious, and I couldn't avoid AoEs due to a two-second lag time; certainly made RP more appealing

RE: Doubles? - Kilieit - 06-23-2016

Three of my characters existed on Zalera first, and there are still clones of them there, but... they're still level 1. I'm spending enough time and effort levelling my Balmung characters (all eight of them); alts on other servers are a bit outside of my reach at the moment...

RE: Doubles? - Raeje - 06-23-2016

I actually have a Raeje Draeka on Balmung, for RP and game content, although for a long time she has been involved more in RP. I'm just now beginning to level her again. I also have a much lower level Raeje Draeka on Diabolos, who I transferred there from Exodus (where I used to play with a friend who quit playing) purely because I wanted to join a Free Company over there, and focus mostly on getting all of the superficial unlocks, such as dying, hairstyle changes, emotes, blah blah blah, because that Raeje is going to be leveled strictly to use in entertainment, either as a performer, or crew member.

Yes, Balmung Raeje is also a performer, she's the exact same character, but I delve into more of the game content over on Balmung than I do on Diabolos.

RE: Doubles? - Varinh - 06-23-2016

Every time I thought about it, I couldn't. I'm much too forgetful and with roleplay being a centric focus of mine I'd have to be on another server for just that. I would have a terribly difficult time keeping two different universes separate. Separate alts, it'd have to be!

RE: Doubles? - Andromeda - 06-30-2016

I recently decided I'd have Iris exist on both Balmung and Lamia, and came up with the way those two versions of the character would coexist. For any situation where Balmung and Lamia's experiences do not directly contradict - i.e. romantic entanglements, free company affiliations, that sort of thing - then both sets of experiences would be 'canon' to the character. Just because people on Balmung cannot interact with her connections on Lamia I didn't feel a need to say those connections didn't exist. For the things where their experiences notably diverge, Lamia's iteration of Iris has precedent as the 'main' version of the character, basically making certain facts of Balmung's Iris an 'AU'.

I hadn't really discussed this with many people, so I'm sure the community will tell me I'm doing it wrong and am a disgusting RPer, but that's how I saw fit to navigate this problem.
