Hello! Returning to ffxiv but new-ish to rp! It's nice to meet you all! - Saraune - 12-20-2016

Hello! I'm Saraune Moreaux, but you can call me Sara.

I'm returning to final fantasy xiv after a good while of being gone. I originally started playing when Balmung was known as Besaid, but only barely touched any RP, after focusing a lot on progression content in other mmos I wanted to step back and do something that felt less like work and more like living out a story, so I figured it was time to return to Eorzea! If anyone has any good tips on developing story and where to start as far as meeting people please let me know!

I'm not entirely sure who Saraune is at this point other than an inquisitive Elezen Scholar who wants to travel the world and uncover the many secrets that lie hidden. Considering herself somewhat of an archeologist, she wants to meet more likeminded parties to adventure and travel with. Though a scholar at heart she is interested in learning how to wield some of the more typical instruments of war, but is unsure of what to start with.

Out of character I am a 27 year old from the frozen northeastern USA who enjoys a nice cup of coffee and video games (mostly RPGS but overwatch is a lot of fun too!). I also play tabletop games, most recently pathfinder as a half orc unchained barbarian lady.

Tl;dr - I'm returning after a long time away and want to get into role playing. I would love to get to know you all and spend time adventuring together and discovering the wonderful world that squareenix has made for us.

See you in Eorzea!
-Saraune Moreaux

Hey there, welcome back to the game, and welcome aboard to the RPC! Thumbsup

As for where to go? Well, the Quicksand Adventurer's Guild in Ul'dah is the most obvious first-stop, really! That place is banging along 24-7 with tons of RP'ers and plenty of chances for walk-up RP and single-encounter stuff with new people every day. That being said, the Quicksand isn't the only option here- you can make connections here on the RPC too (which is what I do because Kasi isn't really a bar-hangout kinda girl) just by creating a Making Connections post if you have a good idea about what you're looking for (which it seems to me that you have a good start!). This thread may net you a few of these too!

The more connections you can get (consistent ones, that is), the more opportunity for storylines you'll have. You can figure on meeting connections of connections too. If your goal is to be able to fill up an entire evening with RP, that's certainly an attainable goal here!

Just on what you've said so far about Saraune, it's arguable she could run into Kasi. Kasi is a traveling mercenary and trader, with a flair for exploration and getting a chance to be out-and-about. She has an agreement with a similar character for exploring ruins where she'll act as escort and muscle for the ventures. Kasi is also pretty experienced with the lance and greatsword, and she'd certainly be willing to teach Miqo'te, or others who have befriended her over time.

You're certainly welcome to stop on by!

Hi!

We've already spoken a little in my introduction thread so it's only right I give a welcome in yours. I hope you enjoy your time in FFXIV both IC and OOC.

Tabletop games is an awesome hobby!

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome! I'm sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner! I played for a little while last night and actually ran into some old friends which was an awesome surprise. I'm actually really nervous about stepping into the RP here, because I am really rusty. I did some years ago in WoW, and like I said I have done some rp with tabletop (though most of the people I play tabletop with are more interested in the combat than the character development). It's good to know that there are other people who only a few months ago were just as confused and unsure as I am now. It gives me hope that I'll be okay! Lol! I think before I do anything though I need to work on my crafting. I discovered last night that when I left, I had filled both my retainers and my bags to the brim with crafting materials. Heh, whoops.

Hello and welcome to the RPC! Glad to see more table top RP'ers are joining the party. I think those skills will serve you very well in your time in Eorzea. I wouldn't worry about being too rusty and just jump right in with your friends and any of your other connections. If you are doing something blatantly wrong in RP or with lore, someone will give you some feedback that you can choose to incorporate or not. Otherwise the RP community is very friendly and tolerant of new RP'ers.

If you are still worried about it and want a low key atmosphere to practice or observe feel free to send me a tell and we can meet up sometime. Or even if you just want another connection feel free to say hi!

That would be great! I'll try my best to remember to add you this evening when I got home from work! I need to do more research on Elezen and their culture/how they react to the world around them, but more connections the better I think! Saraune is definitely of the mind that 'it takes all kinds to make the world go round'. After all, more connections means she will learn more! I really appreciate you saying hi and offering to help!

Not a problem at all. One other tip, I picked this up from Kasi actually and it has been very helpful for me, is to make a small spreadsheet to keep track of your RP connections and who you have met with or who you are still trying to meet with. I just list a character name, where I met them or the outreach source, and some notes about there character that I can build from the next time we run into each other. It keeps me consistent and makes sure that I don't forget to reach out to so and so from the forums or discord or w/e.

If you are interested in the Elezen approach, my FC has a fantastic Elezen conjurer scholar that I could put you in touch with her to see how she handles that.

That is such an amazing idea!!!! I'll definitely have to do that, I feel like where I'm not associated with any FC right now I will probably end up meeting a number of people and getting confused on who's who. I'm also trying to figure out how to balance rp with standard in game mechanics. Like I know I need to focus on crafting to help clear my bags, but if someone who recognized me from a previous rp and came to chat while I was working on said skills, I wouldn't know how to handle it haha.

That would be awesome if you could get us in touch, I see so few Elezen and I don't understand why Sad

RP and content progression will almost always be competing for your valuable gaming time. Generally I log on and if I don't have any immediate RP or events going on I will jump into my roulettes or progress content. Sometimes you feel like doing one and not the other and you can just do as you please. A lot of invites you get will be from tells and I try to never tell people no (especially for first time character meet ups) but you can usually just let them know you are working on something and schedule a time to RP. The game also has an indicator flag for "RP" when you want to engage and have walk ups. Usually if somebody is just crafting and not actively engaging in RP they wont be bothered without a flag up. If its somebody you know, they will likely send you a tell first. Just like anything else, good communication with your RP partners and whatever norm you establish will be how you handle it.

If you are concerned with just clearing space on your retainers, you could always just sell your crafting mats on the market to spend that money on some RP outfits.

Don't feel like you have to jump into an FC right away either. I would recommend checking into some ones that sound interesting to you or get some word of mouth recommendations from your RP partners. That way you are likely to find something that will be a good fit for you and your style.
