Void Summoning - Mordred Lyloche - 06-01-2017 Looking to get some insight on this since the majority of things that are run in to are straight up possession, Void touched characters, or what have you. I already know that summoning the legit Voidsent is far more difficult than summoning the soul of said Voidsent and placing it into a vessel provided by the summoner, but I'd like to know what is different in actually summoning the Voidsent vs. just the soul. I'm probably over-thinking the entire thing and it's probably something as simple as, "You just summon it." But if that's the answer, I'm still glad I asked the question rather than just wondering about it. RE: Void Summoning - Kilieit - 06-01-2017 I transcribed a bunch of stuff from the lore book about Voidsent a while back. Here's the relevant snippet: Encyclopaedia Eorzea - Bestiary - Summoning Voidsent (page 296) Wrote:Though one could walk a thousand malms and never reach the other, the void and the Source lie but a hair’s breadth apart, separated by an unseen veil serving to prevent travel between the two worlds. This veil, however, is not absolute, and with the right amount of aetherial force can be torn to create temporary gateways - gateways to which aether-starved voidsent are drawn, sensing the life energies of our realm. Naturally occurring rents are typically minor, allowing only the smallest and weakest of voidsent through before the wound heals. However in the years leading up to and following the Calamity, the barrier between the two planes has grown weak, resulting in larger and more frequently tears and thusly stronger intruders. RE: Void Summoning - Mordred Lyloche - 06-01-2017 Thank you for the prompt reply. I read your tumblr post the other day when I was researching and I was curious if there was anything more than that. Be that there isn't, I guess I was right in my over-thinking it. Following the original question, I know there are a ton of people that RP a "sense" to be able to sense otherworldly beings, fae, etc. Is there any lore to back up sensing Voidsent or whatnot? Everything I look up seems to lean toward "investigating an area once Voidsent presence is assumed/evidenced," rather than outright sensing their presence. Disclaimer: I do not have access to the lorebook nor do I have a vast compilation of NPC dialogue and other such things, information given is based off of what is recalled from memory of information within the game and therefore may be given to faults or misinterpretations. In Dun Scaith, Cait Sith makes a comment about sensing an aura of malice or some such prior to the fight with Scathach. Therefore it can be inferred that voidsent of an unknown level of sufficient strength would have a palpable presence of some sort, though given that Cait Sith is itself a magical familiar of Mhachi origin who had spent some centuries in the vicinity of voidsent, this is slightly in question since there may be a level of expertise necessary that would be unattainable by modern means. Other than this, I cannot recall anything off the top of my head about voidsent having an "aura" to "sense", though were one to have the Sharlayan devices that the Scions use to see aether, it is likely that they would see the aetheric disturbances that voidsent are like to leave in their wake as they feed. RE: Void Summoning - Mordred Lyloche - 06-02-2017 That makes plenty of sense and it's logical enough. Thanks for the quick response. All of this kind of just reinforced what I already thought/knew so I'm extremely happy with this. I really appreciate the time taken to respond. |
