The Qulaan are a player-made Xaela tribe of big game hunters located on the Balmung server. We operate out of a linkshell called Wolves of the Steppe, as well as using a private Discord server and this Tumblr. We are a medium- to heavy-roleplay group that is looking to turn our focus towards Othard – particularly the Azim Steppe – in order to foster more roleplay within our tribe and outside of it within the wider Xaela RP community as well.

So who exactly are the Qulaan? What is their niche in the wide and varied world of Xaela roleplay? That’s a very fair question, considering that we’re a 100% player-created tribe!

Whether you’re interested in joining us as a member, if you want to conduct in some cross-tribe RP with us, or even if you’re just the least bit curious in general, we encourage you to check out our new Qulaani Lore Website. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into fleshing our tribe out into a living, breathing entity by spelling out our history, religion, traditions, and much more on this easy-to-navigate website!

If you are interested in perhaps creating a Qulaani character or having your existing Xaela join us, we would love to hear your ideas! Please make sure to first read through the ‘Join’ page on our website for more info on who we are, what you should/shouldn’t expect from us, our rules, and even a list of frequently asked questions.

After checking that information out, then follow the instructions there to get in contact with us to get the recruitment ball rolling! We look forward to hearing from you!

The Qulaan are a tribe of Xaela located on the Balmung server of Final Fantasy XIV, operating primarily out of an in-game Linkshell and an out-of-game Discord server. We are a small group of players that really enjoy the tribal Xaela scene and are looking to make our presence known on the Azim Steppe and beyond!

At a glance, the Qulaan are a small tribe whose lives revolve around the pursuit of Big Game – the more challenging, the better. However, that only begins to scratch the surface. Our tribe operates on a rich collection of custom lore and traditions maintained on our beautiful and easy-to-use Qulaan Lore Website. Yet our lore is made to allow those interested a good degree of flexibility so that you don’t feel like you have to shape your new or existing character into a strict cookie-cutter mold to join us. We very much aim to bring together a diverse and varied cast of characters under a common tribal goal and creed!

Can I join with a Xaela character from another tribe?

You absolutely can! The Qulaan were originally a full-fledged tribe of their own, largely closed to outsiders who did not share their blood. However, in the tribe’s current iteration, they are now opening up their ranks to accept Xaela of other heritages so long as they are willing to adhere to the Qulaani way of life centered around the Hunt.

What sort of players are you looking to recruit?

Speaking ICly, we’re not looking for any specific “type” of character. So long as your character concept will jive with our standard of lore compliance (which isn’t even super strict), we’re pretty open-minded! Speaking OOCly, you may be a good fit for the Qulaan Tribe if..

  • You are looking for traditional Xaela tribal RP based in the Steppes and Othard. Your character is more than welcome to travel beyond these borders, but the tribe’s storyline and group RPs will be primarily Othard-based.
  • You’re interested in organized group events that don’t always follow a set schedule or recurring pattern. We plan on doing things like monthly IC meetings and various events centered on the Hunt. However, we can’t promise a planned, organized event every single week since scheduling depends on DM/participant availability.
  • You can also manage your own RP between said group events. We aren’t going to be micromanaging RP within the tribe, which means that you’re responsible for creating or finding your own RP between events. You’ll get out what you’re willing to put in!
  • You aren’t looking specifically for an FC. We’re only a Linkshell and Discord server. So if you’re looking for a full-fledged FC, we’re likely not the right fit!
  • You are excited to actively participate in tribe affairs. We would never expect you to dedicate every waking moment to us! But we’re just getting started, so we have a great need for people who are excited to participate by showing up to events (or even running their own), drumming up RP between, responding to polls and calls for feedback, and even just hanging out and shooting the breeze in the LS / Discord.

Finally, our recruitment policy is to prioritize the quality of our members over quantity. This DOES NOT mean that you have to be a super experienced, always-writes-no-less-than-five-paragraphs-a-post “Master Roleplayer.” All it means is that we prioritize people who (1) are fun, chill, and courteous OOCly and (2) jive well with our lore, concept, and both the IC and OOC group dynamic.

If you have any questions as to what any of the above means, please don’t hesitate to ask for clarification! We would be more than happy to answer questions and elaborate!

Consider me interested! How do I go about joining?

Whether you want to make a fresh new Qulaan or if you want to join up on an existing, non-Qulaani character, your first step is to contact us! There’s a contact form on our website, where you can also read about the rest of our simple, pretty laidback joining process! You can also add Jaliqai on Discord at Jaliqai#1327.

September News & Announcements

In the days since myself (our OOC leader / DM) and Saraghul (our IC tribe leader) have both returned from our respective vacations, the Qulaan tribe has been busy getting things moving forward on the roleplay front! We've redecorated our house, held our first tribal meeting, and we've got the ball rolling on our first mini-plotline as a tribe -- which will double as a test run of the Hunt System that I have developed for us to use!

So if you're interested in seeing what our merry band of misfit lizards has been up to since we last checked in, keep reading!

House Redecoration: The New Qulaan Iloh

Ahead of our first monthly IC meeting, Saraghul and I tackled the task of redecorating the Qulaan house. We've now turned our small Goblet house into a functional pair of yurts -- a main hall for meetings and a feasting hall for.. Well, that's fairly obvious! Below are a couple of screenshots, or you can come see it in person at the Goblet, Ward 10, Plot 1!

September Qulasar : Monthly Meeting & Social Gathering

In Qulaani lore, Qulasar is the name for the tribe's monthly celebration of the full moon. First off, this gathering serves as a meeting where important matters are brought before the tribe: decrees from the leaders, assignment and completion of trials, announcement of rank changes, and so forth. At the completion of official tribe business, Qulasar shifts into a social affair filled with feasting, drinking, and general merry-making.

This month marked the tribe's first gathering for Qulasar since their dissolution at the hand of the Garleans ten years prior. There were a handful of matters that Saraghul Khatun wished to bring before the tribe, including some changes to old traditions and the assignment of trials. When the meeting concluded, a feast of aldgoat hunted from the Thanalan desert followed into the early hours of the morning.

New Mini-Plotline : The Return to the Azim Steppe

In the aftermath of this month's Qulasar, it was decided that the Qulaan would begin their move from their place currently nestled in the Thanalan desert to their homeland, the Azim Steppe. In the suns since, the tribe has begun to trickle back across the ocean to Othard with their hearts and minds set upon the re-establishment of Qulaan Iloh near the trade hub and safe haven of Reunion.

Yet the tribe is soon to find out that their once glowing reputation upon the steppe has seemingly faded from the memories of many in their ten years of absence. Returning to their homeland as strangers with many among them bearing odd mannerisms and customs picked up from their lives lived in myriad corners of the globe, not all Xaela of the steppe are so ready to accept their presence.

Among those wary of the newly returned, ragtag tribe are the Qestir of Reunion, whose permission they must be granted in order to conduct direly needed trade. With no other options, the Qulaan must find a way to earn their trust -- with actions, rather than words.

This will be a mini-Hunt Arc plotline spanning the next 2-3 weeks meant to accomplish several things. First, this plot will help us flesh out our return to the Steppe without simply handwaving it as "it happened." Second, it will give us an opportunity to have a trial run of the Hunt Arc system that I plan to use during our actual 1-2 month long arcs. And finally, we want to use this as an opportunity to try and network with some other Xaela RPers on the steppe.

We will be starting the first event -- scouting a location for Qulaan Iloh to the north of Reunion -- within this upcoming week or weekend. So, if you're interested in hopping in with us as part of the tribe, or if you've got a Qestir or another Xaela with strong Reunion connections who is interested in participating in this mini-plot, please let us know and we can work you in as soon as we can!

Recruitment Status : Still open and accepting!

With the Qulaan RP train leaving the station, now is a great time to hit us up if you're at all interested in either creating a Qulaan or joining up with your Xaela who is from another tribe. If you're interested, check out our Recruitment Post here for more details on what we're looking for, and our Qulaan Lore site for more info about the tribe in general.

If everything sounds good on your end, feel free to submit a Contact Form on the website, to send a Tumblr IM or Ask to either @qulaan or @jaliqai-and-company, or to add Jaliqai / Alaqa on Discord at Jaliqai#1327 to get that ball rolling!
